• Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

Hence, I'm looking forward to it.

Hmm, if I may float an idea, it could be an interesting idea for some of Misery's weapons/spells to drain XP when used. Don't know whether this could be done easily.

EDIT: Oh dear god, I now have Misery AND Balrog as avatars.

Re: Misery Story

That's a good idea! Maybe some could drain her life as well. Although it would require a bit of hacking, which I am not good at.

Thing is that due to the probabilities involved, you're usually going to end up with a massive surplus of XP compared to HP. That's why an XP-draining weapon would be interesting IMO. An HP-draining weapon, on the other hand, would hardly see use unless it was supremely powerful, like a screen-clearer or something.

Re: Misery Story

Yeah...you're probably right.
But there's still the issue of not knowing hacks. Maybe I should ask noxid...

Re: Misery Story

Hmm, what abilities does Misery have in Cave Story...

- Transmutation (Balrog III)

- Lightning bolts (used on King)

- Offensive teleportation (used on Quote after Toroko fight, also Curly and the various robots)

- Unseen highly destructive effect (Egg Corridor?)

- Rotating shields

- Flashing projectiles

- Lightning balloons

- Conjured blocks

- Summoned Critter, Bat, and homing missile swarms.

Obviously, some of these would be rather hard to implement as-is, but others would be highly awesome to use. And some of these have a natural fit onto CS's player mechanics - the shields behave much like the Whimsical Star, while the summoned swarms come in a pre-built level 1/2/3.

Re: Misery Story

That would be AWESOME. It would be so cool if I could get someone that's actually good at hacking (someone really, really good) to do that for me!

It would. I'm no help, though. I have no clue how to code. :D

But yes, having a player character that has boss-style attacks would be great.

Wow, I don't get my ideas praised this much very often.

Re: Misery Story

Well, I'm not being a suck-up or anything, I just think the ideas are really good.
Although, I don't see how the teleporting thing would work. I guess it could teleport the enemy a few feet away, but that would be really hard to program.
And magic, you're the best thing that ever happened to my mods. Seriously, without your feedback, they would probably be dead.
You deserve a debug kitty! :D

I wasn't accusing you of sucking up, just making an observation.

Like I said, hard to implement. Best to use in cutscenes.

Likewise, the falling block would be easier to implement if thrown horizontally instead.

Why, thank you.

I'm a uni student on holidays, so I have a lot of free time at the moment, you see.

Well, I wasn't accusing you of accusing me of anything. Just stating a fact. Anyway.

Indeed. It would be a hack that would go down in history, though (lol).

I do see.

Also, looks like noxid patched the misery story weapons for meh! Awesome, thanks man.

Just noting the truth.

Which weapons has Noxid hacked for you?

Snake and blade require XP as a secondary ammunition. They also now properly display "Empty!" when you have none.

Re: Misery Story

Indeed.
Thanks again, noxid. It's a huge help!
I actually haven't downloaded the file yet. I've been too busy with jenka's nightmare. Lol.
Speaking of which, JN is almost finally done! Just need to add a few endings.
Also, it seems that JN and misery story are going to go hand-in-hand. I'm going to add stuff that relates to jenka's nightmare in misery story, and maybe I'll add some (vague) details about misery's past, that are explained in misery story. So no matter which one you play first, there's going to be a touch of nostalgia.

You do realise that in doing so, you're committing to finishing Misery Story, right?

You're unfamiliar to the term? Basically, the want to do something, for whatever reason.
