I hate to be a killjoy but is Nicalis even okay with people putting their translation (or parts of it) 1:1 into the freeware game.

 

There were attempts at making a mod out of the idea, but were shut off from forum staff than from Nicalis. Treat any asset from Nicalis like how you'd treat their graphics, I guess?

It may be a waste of time, but it's an interesting discussion.

 

If this thread had been made unironically and with a clear plan laid forth on taking the best parts of both translations in a way that doesn't blatantly copy the NICALiS translation, then I would not consider this thread a waste of time. But given that UltraSUPRA obviously made this thread as a joke and doesn't have an actual plan, I agree that this thread is a waste of time.

 

I mean it's still fair to talk about what parts should use the fanmade or official translation if one were to make a mod like that but that just becomes a mostly translation vs translation talk and yknow

While a spliced together translation using the commercial translation is questionable, a retelling of Cave Story in another's own words could be curious. Like Cave Story, but told by another Cave Story character. ...Or more experimental, Cave Story but fill in blank text boxes from memory, and write it down as you go.

 

As long as "Doctor Dumb can go screw himself!" stays in the translation. That line is a national treasure.
