How does Balrog just "jump" from the top?

Where does balrog go when he busts through the ceilings of places that obviously took a lot of money to build? Why does he not leave a huge hole in the roof? Why did he only do damage to the ceiling of the seal chamber? Where does he live in the main game before the good ending? Where is Balrog?


Gentlemen, I would love to know this kind of information.

 

Actually, this is an interesting question - where /does/ he go when he jumps up? By doing that, he was able to escape the (otherwise inescapable at that point) Labyrinth. Does he just teleport away?

 

Maybe there are holes in the ceilings of caves that aren't represented in the 2D areas because Quote can't reach what's beyond them anyway? It's a stretch, but it's all I've got. As for indoor areas, Pixel probably didn't want to bother drawing broken ceilings for every house and building that Balrog busts out of.

Sealed Chamber is a funky magical place, so it's possible that the skulls that make up the ceiling there can't fall into the actual chamber and refill when shifted or removed. So Balrog could have crushed through the skulls, picked up the two, and then had to go through them again, this time with his head.

...actually, you can probably disregard that entire last paragraph because it's sorta dumb ^_^;

Guys, the answer is so obvious.
He's Balrog.
That's how he does it all.
He's Balrog, and that's it; that's a fact.
He is the omnipotent Balrog, a reincarnation of Lord Helix, but in anthropomorphous toaster form.
He doesn't need holes in the ceilings because he is Balrog.




Either that or he goes into all the places before Quote does, hides in the ceilings like a ninja, goes down when Quote comes, then goes back up when Quote defeats him or whatever, and runs past them super quick.

We should probably make a subforum under Cave Story called "[...] is Balrog?"

It seems when Balrog breaks through the ceiling, it only makes sense from the interior of the buildings.

 

All we need now is a "When is Balrog?" thread.

As for the holes, he just warps through the ceiling. Magic.

 

Maybe he has a sort of phasing ability, which allows him to phase through certain places, but needs to move at a quick speed in order to generate kinetic energy to power the device. The reason he has to break through the wall in the shack is because he can't generate enough energy while moving on land. Also, he had to break through the chamber because it's magic allowed him to get in, but disabled the device so that he couldn't get out. He then actualy smashed back out.

 

All we need know is a "When is Balrog?" thread.

nah man it was pretty obvious it was a joke; I think you're just trying to look cool and aloof by making fun of people

 

There are plenty of cutscenes where Balrog jumps from the top and screams either "Huzzah!" or "Oh yeah!". But why isn't there then like a hole in the roof or something like that?

And after defeating Ballos, Balrog jumps in to save Quote and Curly. When he jumps up with them in his hands he makes a hole... But why didn't he make one when he came in...?

Ahem, we all know that Balrog has a tendency to be a bit of an idiot sometimes. As such, he makes mistakes, miscalculations, and... well, to put it quite simply, it's just that.
He didnt come through the hole he came in because he miscalculated his jump location.

Perhaps Balrog phases through solid matter, but upon defeating Ballos he is forced to hurt himself by crashing through it (as he can't make Quote / Curly intangible with him). This could all come from an enchantment given by Misery to him.

Highly unlikely, partially silly, intentionally a joke, but nonetheless it does explain why he is only hurt that one time, and none of the other times have a *crash* noise.
