Rest in peace Tomoko Kawakami

I dunno if many people watch anime here but ...
Chrono Crusade is an anime that really reminds me of Quote and Curly from Cave Story.
0063ce.jpg

When I was looking for inspiration for how they might act in an anime, I looked to Rosette Christopher and Chrno. Rosette's reckless behavior, quick mood swings, the dark things she has seen, and somehow she is almost always positive... She's a fighter.
And Chrno would probably be my Quote. It seems like he's been around a long time, he's seen it all, and perhaps he's a little empty from all the fighting. At least until he meets Rosette.

Anyways, the reason I bring this up is because of this sad news :
Japanese voice actress Tomoko Kawakami has passed away.

http://en.wikipedia....Tomoko_Kawakami
The japanese voice actress for Rosette and many other anime like : Utena (Utena), Fushigi Yugi (Chiriko), Air (Misuzu), and many more (and some games)

Anybody still watch anime?

If so what have you watched last or are watching now? :D

These days I try to just watch the ones that are highly rated or really catch my eye...
With that in mind, the last anime I watched was Madoka (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)...

(You can full screen with the button on the right of HD, Escape key to exit)
^I didn't know Cave Story forums could do Vimeo!

For Noxid, GiR and those who appreciate all things 8-bit~

It was a really enjoyable show. I won't say anything so I won't spoil, except if you think anime is just for kids...
wrong wrong wrong!

And here's an AMV [spoilers probably, but if you have no intention of watching this anime then... why not?]

Other note worthy shows :
Steins;Gate,
Bakemonogatari,
Fate/zero,
Phantom : Requiem

What else am I missing out on?

actually, I'm just getting back into anime, what a coincidence.
Even more coincidentally, your list of notable shows is basically my to watch list :D

I'm in the middle of Steins;Gate right now, damn it's really good.
I just got to the part where
Mayuri dies
possibly the saddest moment in any anime I've watched to date ;~;

Next on my list are Madoka Magica, and Bakemonogatari, which I have high hopes for.

Madoka is on my "To Watch" list. Here's my list of recommendations, which only serves to point out how much of a fucking hipster I am when it comes to this topic:

Kaiba: The weirdest, most bizarre construction of a sci-fi universe I've ever seen. It needs to be watched just for that, if for nothing else. It's also technically not an "anime", because the art was actually inspired by anime's Korean counterpart. In this world, people have undergone mind mapping/mind uploading and have their memories/personalities stored on a chip that can be swapped between different android bodies. Therefore, the individuals in this universe range from ordinary humans, to inanimate objects, from furries to giant insects to whatever you can imagine. Story follows a protagonist with amnesia and is very compelling.

(Turn on captions)

Tatami Galaxy: The premise is this: A guy with an unfulfilled high school life views college as a new start. Every episode sees him join a new club and the terrible outcomes that follow, and ends with time reversing, so he can make a different choice. Without wishing to spoil too much, the last two episodes are a trippy, mindfucky way of exploring how the protagonist eventually stopped trying to seize opportunities/be proactive and got trapped in his own world (figuratively AND literally). It contains a time paradox thing that fucked with my mind, as well.

I highly recommend this to anyone who's feeling "stuck" in life at the moment, or isolated. It's very inspirational/thought provoking in that regard, but I hope you can read fast, because the protagonist in this series talks faster than ANY subbed show I've watched.

Here, watch... but since it's the last episode, don't watch the whole thing, christ. Just get a feel for the tone/pacing and narration.

Holy SHIT I just realized this episode is based off "The Cube", holy wow.

Ergo Proxy: Is difficult to describe. It's post-apoc/sci-fi, and arguably the best sci-fi anime that exists. I need to watch it again because I still don't follow 100%. Humans and androids live in relative harmony until a virus breaks out that begins to make the androids self-aware.

Also, it has music by Radiohead ("Paranoid Android"). Try not to masturbate too hard.

Angel Beats!: Looks like a stupid as hell series, but I was finally talked into watching it with my fiance. I will never emotionally recover from it. Ever.

No video I post could actually correctly portray the series + emotional scarring, so, no vid.

After watching Madoka, there are some translated videos for the Madoka game that might be of interest :D

Mmmm...
Kaiba... curious, *added to the list* Interesting concept...... I'll give it a shot later :D
Tatami Galaxy, blocked by Funimation! I'll look for it later xD

@Ergo Proxy - <3 always wanted this. But I was too cheap and always was waiting for a sale... until finally, I forgot about it...

Angel Beats! is good? Hmm... I passed on it after reading some average reviews about it, and watching a trailer... (loved the opening though...)
I'll have to give it a shot after all D: Sounds like a dangerous choice, though I think anime and visual novels have already scarred me for life xD

Have you seen Clannad? (and After Story), if you like Angel Beats! (being emotionally scarred lol) that might be one to check out. Though I've been told perhaps you should check out the Clannad visual novel game instead, since it has much more material...

Just found this :

When you finish Steins;Gate, it might be interesting to check those side stories out :D

Right now, I'm actually re-watching Cowboy Bebop since I never finished the series, and have the movie to watch...

Haven't watched much anime this month, though I watched some of World God Only Knows 2 and Fate/zero...
I want to spend a day and watch everything on the big screen/speakers sometime... Not quite the same with headphones...

Angel Beats!: Looks like a stupid as hell series, but I was finally talked into watching it with my fiance. I will never emotionally recover from it. Ever.

I was looking through my youtube history and found a relevant video that might be appreciated :D

Doesn't sound sad... I like this one particularly because it is mixed so well with the original.

Still need to see it...

Also, saw this video earlier today, when looking up examples I thought about posting in the machinama thread ... Makes me want to try animating something...

Oh yeah, last thing on Madoka :
After you watch the series, if you want, you might check out this short series of translated videos of the game's extra route. Spoiler video though. So avoidddddddd if you haven't watched it yet.
[And check the best ending video afterwards]

@cultr1 - Mirai Nikki, oh?? I passed that series up too D: I thought it looked interesting, but don't think I found reviews to give me a reason to watch it... I'll add it back on to the list~

I watched all 50-odd episodes of Eureka 7, both seasons of Trinity Blood, and the Read or Die OVA. In one night. Some fast forwarding and double speed playback was involved.

My 2 favorite animes are Gurren Lagann and Fairy Tail. I actually just discovered Fairy Tail and I'm only on episode 12. I liked the beginning episodes of Accel World and the few ending episodes of the first season were good as well, but I think they kinda failed in the middle and I wished the main character would've gotten some bigger balls by the end of the season. Also, I still haven't gotten through Bleach, or Shakugan no Shana, but those are also great animes, imo.

I never really watched much anime, but I loved Yu Yu Hakusho back when it was on Toonami. I also watched about half of Wolf's Rain about a year ago, I loved it but I lack the attention span to watch shows when I'm given freedom to watch episodes at my own pace.

This is a pretty old thread, but we don't really need ANOTHER anime thread~

So, for a long time, I'd stopped watching anime; the hobby was just too expensive, and I avoided streaming sites for no good reason.
...WELL! I finally broke down and started watching anime on Netflix... and now I've really been enjoying these late night sessions :3

I listed the anime shows I've watched recently... Wrote a little blurb for each, and youtubed a video to give you a reference... Mmmmm...

Rosario Vampire
3.5 stars -
Vampire Rosario. What's good? Vampires and monsters. Battles, and drama. Friends, and CHUU! Love~
What's bad...? Over the top fan service, and harem troubles. Awkwardness. It'll probably be a hit or miss show, depending on your level of accepting the main characters. I'm very open, so I enjoyed it a lot for the most part. It's not a highly serious show, but it has its moments. <3

Heaven's Lost Property
3.5 stars -
... Well my, oh my... BEYOND FAN SERVICE! It's a pretty amusing anime, where wishes are made reality. Angel-like girls descend from the sky to create incredible havoc in the main character's life. It's pretty different. I liked it xD It's way, over the top, but that's just part of its charm. If you can enjoy a flock of panty birds flying through the sky as an ending credits, then you'll be fine, and I recommend this anime. lol

Girls Bravo
2.5 stars -
Well, to be fair, I only saw several episodes, before they removed this anime. So, I never finished it... It's high fan-service too, another girl from another world situation. But, it's a little more down-to-earth (Wait... on second thought...) than the previous shows I mentioned. Well, except for hottubs that lead to alternate dimensions, etc... *ahem* It might be a pretty decent anime, but I wouldn't know. Still, it's not bad.

Devil is a Part Timer
3.5 stars -
Well. This was a surprise. That's what I love about anime. You just DONT see this stuff anywhere else! The DEVIL works at MC Donalds... and he's a COOL guy. :] lol... It's a pretty decent short 12, episode ? anime. It ends all too soon however, leaving you wanting more... Good animation in this one...

Blood+
3 stars -
I wanted to like it more, as I've been wanting to see it for ages. But, after so many light-hearted shows. (well dosed with a lot of comedy)... Blood+ was... well it wasn't my cup of tea anymore. I enjoyed it, but it felt like something was lacking. Less, fun, and missing the right chemistry to make it really enjoyable. If you like gritty action, you might check it out. Vampires, are not classic vampires here!

Ghost Hunt
4 stars -
Ah... <3 Watched this around Halloween. I really enjoyed it a lot. I didn't know what to expect. It focuses on the female protaginst, as she joins a group of paranormal specialists; and it has some of my favorite characters yet. Compared to the rest of the shows I watched, this one felt the most... real? It may be lacking on action, but it makes up for it with dialog and suspense. No harems here...

Vampire Knight
4.5 stars -
:) Oh... <3 Another female protaginst anime, that I've heard compared to that popular vampire movie... I forget the name of. There's a lot of focused drama here, but it's a "high school" vampire show that I really appreciated. More of the classic vampire found here. One of my favorite videos here:

.hack//Quantum
5 stars -
It's short, 3 OVA epiosdes. One of the better anime movies imo... Worth checking out. If you've heard of .hack, and are curious... then this is for you. And, if you've seen Sword Art Online and want more, it's a no brainer. I'm sure if nothing else, the animation will impress~

The Irregular at Magic Highschool
4.5 stars -
This was a random show I clicked on, and I'm glad I did. Magic by science (well movie science)... I like it. Good characters, great animation, good music. It's a high quality show. If you like your highschool shows with a dose of action and magic, then this is for you.

Sword Art Online
5 stars -
I thought this was supposed to be bad? I was mistaken! I really enjoyed it, and although it wasn't perfect by any means... there was a lot to love. No spoilers... Go check it out sometime... If you like action/games/classic love stories, GO FOR IT! (kinda like .hack)

MAGI : Labyrinth of Magic
4 stars -
I really didn't like it when I started... But...

MAGI : Kingdom of Magic
5 stars -
By the time I made it here I LIKED IT A LOT! Great animation, great characters, epic show. It fails occasionally, but overall I couldn't stop watching. Lots of serious topics here too. Makes me want to be more involved, instead of waste so much time playing around... :]

After I finish up MAGI, maybe I'll watch Kill La Kill or something... We'll see...

BUMP cuz ummmm, I may finally be watching Sailor Moon, I've been meaning to for years, but I never got around to actually doing it. I named myself after her when I became trans, so I should at least watch it.

I binged the entire series in 2019, very much worth watching.
I'd suggest you either watch it subbed, or watch the Viz dub.
Do not watch the Dic or Cloverway dub because it makes ridiculous changes to the story (like how they changed it so Haruka and Michiru are cousins instead of a lesbian couple) and is overall a mess.

Still waiting for a decent Berserk adaptation. Not like the first one wasn't good, but it lacked a lot.

Berserk fans are always suffering, it has to be this way.

Recently I was roped into watching Vinland Saga blind and with no context other than it having the same team as Attack on Titan's. It was actually not bad but borders along the despairing, mindless bloodshed and killing that I don't typically like to see. However, it did a good job of still keeping me wanting to see what happens next and lacks the typical pitfalls of anime and makes things like strategic and political explanations interesting. I thought the father was cool since I have a soft spot for those types of characters even if they're said to be dry to others (like with Johnathan Joestar). I didn't realize he wasn't gonna be the protagonist, so the gut punch of
him dying even though the manga synopsis says this kinda hurt. But there's the whole thing where all of Season 1 is just really a prologue, which is really cool, but only added to how dreadful it was to figure out you're really just watching the feats of the man who got away with killing him instead of his son!

The following story seems to tease at something more lighthearted, similarly to Berserk, so I'd be lying if I said I wasn't interested in seeing what comes next. Maybe I'll take a look at the manga, maybe not. I've been putting off Berserk though...

Vinland Saga? Have you red the manga? I hesitate to watch animes of master works such as Berserk and Vinland Saga. Is it better compared to the manga? If yes, in what way?

I haven't read the manga, no, there's few manga I bother to read, only cases being for something that never aired (at least properly) like Berserk, thing's I've already watched (JoJo), etc. I like watching anime more personally. From what I casually saw off Reddit and a YouTube review after the season finale I heard there isn't much changed in story, I don't think. Could always be a pacing change or something minor. However as usual the art might be better in the manga, along with any nitpicks you could have with the production of the anime. The show does have generous use of CGI in some scenes, but honestly I wasn't too bothered because the rest of the anime looks fine, and looks really good in the action scenes. Like, you'll definitely probably notice it, but it's not in-your-face; just compare it to AoT.

I can't tell you if you'd be better off reading just the manga, I'm not that much of a stickler for reading. I can definitely recommend the show so far, though.
