And my first death was probably spikes. Though it might have been by drowning in the Start Point (if that's the case, it was most likely to test whether water kills you).

The water in the first cave.

I didn't know I could drown so I just went into the water and went to take a dump. >.<

 

My first death was when I rammed into the spikes on the ceiling next to the start point. That's the last time I try to leap all those spikes in one go...

Quite sure didn't die in First Cave, quite sure I defeated Balrog 0 seconds, quite sure I skipped the life cap below the teleport, quite sure I am a big fat coward, but that saved me .

That was... epic. One example(as observed from the comments) how a single event from a game can affect your thoughts for the night. Another example is failing to save Curly when you suck.

 

i got fried by one of the hopper things in Grasstown. I watched DC's LP before playing..

Suprise, suprise, the spikes in the first cave. Exited the door, floored it to the left, and hit the spikes. It was depressing, sionce I did the same thing about 5 times after.

What's it like?

You go poof, bleezaat and then some nice music plays that can only be achieved through this means.

But, back on topic, I think it was the first spikes of the game, although I might have died at the hand-...flippers, of Balrog first. I cant remembe ^^;

My first death, I think, was to the giant spike pit in Grasstown before I figured out when to jump on the highest fan. I was going to say Curly, the first boss I died to because I wasn't expecting it, but now I think it was those spikes.

Surprisingly, I did not die to Frenzied Toroko the first time I fought her.

 

I died in the Egg Corridor, when I decided to see if I could kill Basil. Turns out you can't.

 

I got killed by basil, for like five years.
