Assuming you're using a single tab character to separate each field, I can't see why that shouldn't work. I've been able to add custom command descriptions to my own CE files without issue.
Maybe try adding the new one to the bottom of the list?

They all use single tabs, so that's fine.

I tried that, but it still doesn't show the name or description in the database on the right of the script editor - all it shows is the "<AIR -".
It doesn't even color the parameter value (the XXXX in <AIRXXXX) like it does for every other command. The single digit number (0-3) to the left of the command is the number of parameters it has, right?

NEVERMINDNEVERMINDNEVERMIND
I effed up, now it works.
...As you were.

Right click on your Cave Story folder and uncheck Read-Only. Then it should work. Also, next time use the Quick Hacking/Modding Answers Thread.

I found and able to replicate the strange crash easily on version 0.99d. This is called the Mouse Wheel crash. Download/Watch this video below:

Mousewheel_Crash.avi

This happens when:
  • I right-click a map and click 'Edit Script'.
  • I click the close button below.
  • With the main window appearing inactive, I scroll using the mouse wheel.
Then, BOOM! It stopped working. The problem details may look like this every time the Mouse Wheel crash happens:

But all good things related to Cave Story modding just seem to die at some point :droll: (King's Story, Sue's Story, etc)

P.S. Replying to a 2 year old topic? You certainly have guts Fluff8836 :p
King's Story is coming back.
P.S. Replying months after the last post? You certainly have guts, zxin.

The editor isn't saving anything. I tried looking through the forum but I can't find the information I'm looking for.

Also is it normal if buttons like "Add Tileset" or "Copy Background" are nonfunctional? If not, what can I do to fix the problem? I can't even save the Game Settings.

I don't know why it's not saving, but the other things don't work. Oh also use Booster's Lab, it would be better to get used to that instead.

the buttons were never functional, have you tried redownloading it?

if it doesn't work use Booster's Lab

Can we get this editor moved the defunct tools section already on the tribute site?

It's causing tons of unknowledgeable souls to wander into the depths of no return; because at a crossroads, they having no knowledge, chose the wrong path that leads only to destruction.

Unless I am mistaken there is functionality in CE that hasn't been added to BL yet. Plus CE is still a personal preference for many due to its interface. Since mods are interchangeable between the two editors there is hardly an issue.

Yes, but honestly Booster's Lab will eventualy overtake Cave Editor, and the less people stubborn to change, the better I guess. Maybe put some thing like BL is better but CE has a thing that is useful so use BL mostly?

What feature? with the haxinator BL has everything CE did except the facepic preview.

I still haven't gotten around to adding that previewer in the TSC editor

A few of my recommendations for BL:
1) When loading a tileset with OOB or unknown tiles, BL will always keep displaying an error message and then you have to force quit w/Task Manager. This is a really annoying bug as it forces me to use CE to edit some maps.
2) BL will often replace the script in a map with the file from Scriptsource randomly, and often deletes the files altogether - serious bug.
3) Maybe add the map dimensions settings to the other map settings?
4) Change the colour of the checkered background on tilesets; it's kinda blocking some tile colours.
5) The face preview in the script editor has some serious scaling issues.
6) I liked CE's idea of the tileset being movable rather than immobile and taking up space on your screen.
7) Maybe put the hex patcher into the hacking tool?

Thanks but this is the cave editor thread??

Anyway, a few of these are actually non issues I think
1- not sure what you mean by this but are you using the most recent version, there have been fixes to make the loader more robust.
2- it'll only delete them if you intentionally save over it. You can always just delete the script sources if you think there's something missing. There was also an update at one point to make it notify you if it's out of date but I'm not sure it fully works.
3- right click the map in tile mode
4- that's been customizable ever since it was implemented, check the view menu
5- At this point all I really care is that you can see it
6- double click it to undock the panel
7- no
