Cave Story Prequel

I am creating a prequel to Cave Story in MultiMedia Fusion 2. It will be ready for a beta test in one month or less. If you want to register, put it on the forums. I will give a download link to the people that register for closed beta.
PS. The game is NOT very far in development yet.

Could you be a bit more specific in terms of the game itself, like whether it's an indirect prequel, whose story it follows, and what possible new features could be in it?

It shows the backstories of many characters. Some things in it may contradict the plot of Cave Story, but it ends up as a better story. I have attached the basic plot.

Prequel to Cave Story

The beginning of the game has quote and Curly (who will follow him around, assisting at fighting) assigned to protect the Mimiga by (human) Sue, Booster, and the others who came to the island. Along the way, he fights evil robots and learns that they were secretly sent by the Doctor. He eventually runs into the demon crown, which goes into his inventory. In the next doorway, the Doctor and his robots are waiting for him, ready for a boss battle. Quote wins, but the Crown is taken by the Doctor. He knows he has to get it back and destroy it once and for all, but how? When Quote goes to the thriving Mimiga village, and meets Professor Booster, who lost his glasses and needs them found. When you find them, he will give you a prototype Booster V .2, which is the predecessor to the Booster V2 and .8. You tell Booster that the Doctor has the crown, and he gives you information on the backstory of it. Booster also agrees to tell the others to watch out for the Doctor. As you upgrade weapons and get more powerful, Quote meets the Balrog for the first time. He and Misery are both now servants of the doctor, although Balrog is a very easy defeat. Eventually, you fight Misery too, who is much harder to defeat than Balrog. In a cut scene, you are fighting the Doctor, and he defeats you and curly. You both lose your memories whilst being hit. Some Mimigas from the desert carry Curly away, and you are taken by an unknown entity to the first cave.

Okay, a couple things:
- Everything, and I mean everything looks out of scale. You might want to adjust the scale of the sprites, because some of them look a bit blurry.
- How can this be a prequel and Cave Story 2 at the same time?
- On the 'staircase' of blocks to the right of the prefab house (or at least I assume that is) why exactly are they disjointed from each other?

I would recommend reading some theory threads on the forums, just so you can get a solid understanding of the canon and pre-game story.
Other than that though, doing good.

The reason for the graphical errors is I just copied them from screenshots. They are not final graphics. BTW, it is a prequel, I dont know why I said 2.

 

If you want the original sprites, you can always find them somewhere online...
Spriter's resource, these forums (maybe) and some other notable sites have plenty of those.

And how far did you go in the game? Quote and Curly have been on the island 10 years long before the Sakamotos, Itoh, Booster, and the Doctor have landed on the island.

I know. I am somehow going to bridge the plot, or, if I have to, change it completely.
And thank you for telling me about the graphics. I just fixed it to add in Sue's human face.

somehow...somehow.... just saying but you can't just make it happen as you go along. You have to actually spend time making the plot and even some more plots if you have to. The point is you can't jump right in if this is your first mod.

 

You can't jump right in anyway. It is very important to do preliminary planning even before you touch the mod files - it's good to figure out your story, characters and settings beforehand instead of on the fly.

I created a Miakid sprite. He will be the main antagonist.

Perhaps because it's disproportionate from the original.
The coloring's pretty nice, but why not just edit the original sprite?
