As for that post that VoidMage managed to slip in before mine, I am PUMPED. Considering the amount of reading involved in Cave Story, this is one of the most important changes they've made. WOO NEW WORDS TO READ! I SHOULDN'T BE THIS EXCITED WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME.
1. nothing, this is awesome news indeed.
I forgot the rest, so who cares? It's indeed awesome news.

I just thought of something they could add. I'd love to see an integrated achievements system, for things like each different ending, finding hidden secrets and easter eggs, getting every life capsule, etc.

Oh yeah you're the first person to suggest that ever.

Not to mention that achievements are retarded. You don't need to be patted on the head for playing the game if you like it so much you've played enough to get every ending, or life capsule, or whatever the hell.

It's just a little something extra so that you can get more out of the game. Everyone likes achievements. That's why so many games have them. You don't have to try to unlock them if you don't like them.

Seriously. No need to get all rude about it. Does sound like a fun little addition.

But, there wouldn't be many to unlock, would there? Panties, Chaco, all life capsules, all missiles, all endings, what else? I can't think of any.

With achievements, they always show a couple that you COULD get. Good for telling you what you might do.

Beating Monster X, the Undead Core, Ballos, getting Booster 2.0, finding the Bubbler, killing yourself on Santa's spikes, leaving Curly in the Waterway Cabin, doing Hell really quickly (I dunno, 6 minutes), and getting the Alien Medal.

I can probably say I'm not the only one who set out to experience every possible little secret and bit of dialogue as possible, and an achievement system would help keep track of things like that.

A few more could be things like one per ending, a few for different hellrun times like Cap mentioned, one for beating the game with the mimiga mask, and things like minimal items and 3hp runs.

naw, make hell a 5 min timer.

My fastest lines up at a nice 4'13"0.

Also, get an achievement for beating the good ending with only 3 hp.

A while back Nicklas and I were discussing Achievements and how they artificially give you more to do in a game. But usually it's stuff you'd already do, "beat level 1!", "you pressed the start button!"

This is what I think of Achievements in games: http://armorgames.com/play/2893/achievement-unlocked

Now shut up about achievements. They aren't happening. (and they're useless, fucktards)

achievements are the bane of modern gaming. they serve absolutely no purpose.

This

Quote from Jvavt on August 13, 2009, 16:37
I honestly don't care about achievvements, as I am only a Wii and DS owner. They are meant to add extra replayability BUT CAVE STORY is one of the few games I have played over and over... and over MANY TIMES.

That

Achievements are the means of a video game telling you "No, you aren't a godly adventurer on a mysterious island. You're a sack of crap sitting at home on your couch, eating potato chips."

It's been said time and time again how horrible achievements are; and every last word of it is true. It's the developers way of milking every last little drop of game play out of the game, just to increase the size of your ego. And it's there for no reason but to break the ambiance of the game, and destroy the flow. There is no reward but an electronic piece of text saying 'you did this', so you yourself don't have to remember it.

If you want achievements, just draw a smiley face on your TV screen every time you die.

ACHIEVEMENT: Dead men blind.

Yea, in the end beating the game isn't useless because in the end you just bought a $30-$60 easily scratched, disk of data, that plays to around 4-6 hours of game play.

... Oh wait.

Achievements are only useless if you don't enjoy them. The same could be said for video games, as well. And did Tyrone say he wasn't putting achievements in? No, he said he didn't like silly, easy ones.

Yea, just because you don't like them doesn't mean everyone does. They're as useless as the regular gameplay and can (sometimes artificially) extend the gameplay, giving you more bang for your buck. Besides, they don't stop you from playing the game normally, do they? If you hate them that much, you can ignore them.

I love that game, partly because it was actually fun and partly because it was a satire of me finding it fun. But anyway, what GIRakaCHEEZER said.

I APPROVE OF ACHIEVEMENTS FOR CAVE STORY.
It'll make me feel like I accomplished something I haven't already. D:
Like beat Sacred Grounds! Haven't done that yet.

Heh heh, I would like achievements, BUT ONLY so long as they are all hard as hell to obtain. I hate the "beat lv 1, Achievement!" thing.

"Opened a door"
"Killed a monster"
"Left Curly to die"
I know what you mean. But the game might as well track accomplishments like the Alien Medal and unlocking Sacred Ground.
