I forgot to add the Abhorsen series. In fact, I enjoy Garth Nix' work in general.

On 1984: If you want a dystopian novel with slightly more modern relevance, I suggest Feed

On Flatland: There are a few sequels to flatland. They aren't by the original author, but depending on what you liked about flatland you may enjoy some of them.

I have a pretty typical library, featuring such literary works as:

Animal Farm (George Orwell)
Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy: A Trilogy of 5 (Douglas Adams)
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (Hunter S. Thompson)
Clothar the Frank (Jack Whyte)
King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table (Roger Lancelyn Green)
1984 (George Orwell)
The War of the Worlds (H.G. Wells)
All them harry potter books
The Hobbit (J R R Tolkien)

Also that's a pretty nifty chart, WoC

Still need to read that.

I'm not a huge reader, but when I actually do it I generally enjoy it. I like to read books on forensic anthropology and dead bodies. I do enjoy fiction once in awhile though.

I actually enjoyed Hamlet too, along with the Merchant of Venice. I was never a huge fan of Shakespeare, either.

Ops, I forgot this one. It has been ridiculously difficult for me to find the next four books, so I've just read the first one.

That's okay man, the shipping would probably cost about the same as buying the books myself. The first one is the important one to read anyway, right?

That book is so messed up I don't know where to begin. I would also recommend it, but damn dudes. Damn.

Abhorsen was also a great series, I think absolutely anyone who likes fantasy should read it. Animal Farm is good, you should read it, although if you don't know anything about the Russian Revolution it'll all go over your head. As for 1984, well, you pretty much have to read that shit. I won't say I enjoyed it, because it was a giant mindfuck that destroyed my faith in humanity, but I don't regret reading it.

Books that have been ruined because I was forced to read and over-analyze them:
Number the Stars
The Giver
Lord of the Flies
The Chrysalids
Romeo and Juliet

And countless shitty books from elementary school that no one cares about. Making me do a worksheet on a chapter every day is a good way to make me resent a good book.

Yeah, I had to read a lot of those ones too. The ones I did actually enjoy were Death of a Salesman, The Great Gatsby, In Cold Blood, 1984, and..uhh, that's pretty much it I think. I enjoy books a lot more when I can read them on my own time and not have to nitpick every single detail. Screw you, English class.

I mean, some metaphors are very clearly metaphors. Like the green light. And Ulysses.

But yes.

@WoC I really liked the beginning of TTTC, but all the stuff about truth not being truth honestly confused me horribly. I haven't read going after Cocciato, but may now.

Posting pictures of libraries would be fun I guess.

Speaking of truth and dystopia/utopia, that reminds me of a book I read in high school called The Truth Machine, which apparently is available for free download. The wikipedia article is brief:
The Truth Machine (1996) is a science fiction novel by James L. Halperin about a genius who invents an infallible lie detector. Soon, every citizen must pass a thorough test under a Truth Machine to get a job or receive any sort of license. Eventually, people begin wearing them all the time, thus eliminating dishonesty in all parts of human interaction, and eliminating crime, terrorism and a great deal of general social problems.

It's one of those funny books that makes guesses at the not-so-distant future.

No love for The Book Thief?
But yeah, I approve all of the books that have been mentioned on this thread.
I also did enjoy a specific book in the past five months, but some people might get upset with me...

... But that doesn't matter.

Other than that, I'm not a really big fan of books. I'm more of a magazine person.

I hope this book explores the concept better than The Invention of Lying.

Also, 1984:

I'm probably going to be lynched for saying this, but I didn't actually think Twilight was that bad. I mean yeah it wasn't great, but the way some people talk about it, it's like it murdered their families or some shit...
