• Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

Alright, gimme a sec to fetch them...

Woah, hey! It's Reply here, and I have Comment with me as well! He's finally old enough to come out here. With my supervision, of course. I've got to be here to keep a code and watchful eye on... Ooh! What's that there?

Hi guys! It's me, Comment! Sorry about Reply, what with his tiny attention span and his inability to recognise the fact that I'm a girl. :B
Also, I'm happy to help you get to know me, Spoiler! What do you want to know? I'll answer almost any questions you have! And it's always great to talk to you again, Signature! See you guys later!

    *ahem*

Hey guys, just Dunc here. I'm doing good, it's always pleasant to see you guys.
I uhh... Don't really have much to say, soooooo I guess that's it! I'll talk to you guys later.

★And hey, it's good to see you again, Comment! It's been a while, huh? I'm so glad to see you're okay.

We've kinda been going through a bunch of bad things over here, but we're okay now! I was getting a bit paranoid. But there was no need to worry, right? ^_^★

    This is honestly the best
I remember you seemed interested to see what happened when that Cave Man org that I wrote was performed by live musicians. You might be sorry. Or you might not be. Who can say? It is a mystery. Anyway, here's a video to the first performance of it, with so-so (at best) recording quality: <iframe id="ytplayer" class="EmbeddedVideo" type="text/html" width="640" height="390" src="http://youtube.com/embed/foWg_xfE6pI?html5=1&fs=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen webkitallowfullscreen /></iframe>

    I'm glad you liked it.

That section that you're talking about is in fact an improv solo section. The tenor sax player was originally going to take a solo, too, but then he decided just before we started that he didn't want to after all. I almost decided not to solo, too, but they all convinced me to go ahead and do it.

That screech trumpet part was also done kind of on a whim. The trumpeter on the left has some lead chops, so he decided to take it up an octave or so. Cool.

I would have liked to have put a trombone in there, too, but it just didn't work out. I'm thinking that I might write some brass quintet stuff for next year's camp, though, so that would involve two trumpets, French horn, trombone, and tuba. We'll see!

I'm the shorter of the trumpet players, the one on the right.

And that's awesome that you play trombone! I didn't know that before, but now you have just gained cool points in my book. Congrats. Do you play in band at school or whatever?

Yeah, I'm in a school band and school district jazz band, and I often get put into the district's "Honor band", which is a collection of the best musicians in the district. This summer I also went to a jazz camp for five days, which was amazing fun, and I can't wait to do again next year.
Also, I liked your solo! I'm not nearly good enough with theory or improvisation to point out exactly what I liked or disliked, but a good solo is a good solo. I'm glad you decided to!
Also, I'd be very interested to hear the brass quintet stuff, as the french horn is an instrument that I believe needs to be played more in jazz. (And hey, maybe I could convince some people to play a piece or two with me? <img src='http://www.cavestory.org/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':p' />)
And again, great job working that improv section in; who'd have thought I'd hear someone soloing over an org?

I look forward to hearing anything else you do, particularly for jazz groups, as that's my favorite kind of performed music. Make sure to tell about anything you make!

I remember well district and county honor bands and orchestras from elementary school through high school. Good times! And of course music camp is an awesome experience, too. That's actually where we performed Cave Man: a music camp in California where I grew up as a camper for like six years, graduated and went back as a camp counselor for a few more years until they asked me to be the Boys Dean a few years ago and then they hired me as the trumpet coach last year. I guess you could say that I like music camp.

Most of my training has been in classical music, but I've done a bit of jazz, salsa, commercial, and other kinds of music, too. Heck, I've even played in a ska band for a gig or two. I do love jazz, even though there are certainly better soloists and improvisers out there. The quintet stuff that I have in mind is definitely more classically oriented at the moment, but who knows where things might go with them.

Actually, if you're interested in some brass quintet stuff that's a bit more on the rock or jazz side of things, there's a phenomenal group out there called Rhythm and Brass. They do a wide variety of music from classical stuff to Led Zeppelin covers to originals. And to top it all off, their all really nice guys. In fact, here's a video of some of their stuff:

    <iframe id="ytplayer" class="EmbeddedVideo" type="text/html" width="640" height="390" src="http://youtube.com/embed/W5fQ-BbnVc0?html5=1&fs=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen webkitallowfullscreen /></iframe>

If you'd like to check out a couple other things I've done, I have some videos of my senior recital (almost four years ago—wow... has it been that long?) from college up on Youtube. In particular, you might like this one: <iframe id="ytplayer" class="EmbeddedVideo" type="text/html" width="640" height="390" src="http://youtube.com/embed/kAIDaZcM-sU?html5=1&fs=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen webkitallowfullscreen /></iframe>

I actually made that piece into an org, too, so you might recognize it. Who knows?

Have you done much improvisation? It's a lot of fun.

It's great, but the first boss is one hell of a difficulty spike compared to the rest of the game up to that point. I've tried following Gaia's advice, but to no avail. I'm loving it though, which is the main reason I keep trying.

Yeah, the bosses can be a bit tricky. Playing as Freedan and using herbs can make it more bearable, but it's still a tough fight. I'm glad to hear that you're still enjoying it, though. Good luck with the boss—you can do it! There's a pretty cool part that follows the boss battle, and you're almost there! If you ever want any pointers, just let me know.
