I take it that Pixel never made any more Ame Manga strips...

I'd like to see some more, or even make some inspired by them

 

Well, not exactly a manga, but Pixel has recently (around 2020-ish) began drawing pictures of Ame characters on a regular basis again (well, regular until he inexplicably stopped using his Twitter about a year ago). Notable gems include Ame doing the Garfield folded arms pose (yes, really), meeting aliens, and getting photobombed by a spider-crab hybrid. There was even an ongoing wordless storyline revolving around Ame dying and being taken to the spirit world, though I don't believe it was ever properly concluded.

If you don't feel like scrounging through the smoldering trash heap of post-Musk Twitter, then check out studiopixel.jp/ame. It's not completely comprehensive (I think the major ones that are missing are this and this, and there's a whole host of images featuring Pixel's unrelated new wolf OC that aren't present), but it has most of the original pixel art in all their non-upscaled glory, and WIPs that provide a neat insight into Pixel's drawing process.

 

I really miss his Twitter already, it was fun to interact with him and he received a lot of gift art and he genuinely loved it bc he cares about these characters a lot more.

But I feel like the audience he attracted (plus the constant rate of content he was pumping out) was really burning him out and I totally understand why he stopped... bc that kind of Twitter content stuff is very hard on people.
It makes sense he'd stop for the same reasons he stopped doing BBS stuff but I hope some day he comes back to do more Ame related stuff because I really wanna see what's going on in that world that he vaguely has shown to us in his games.

He didn't stop interacting with people "because of his audience", he just put Twitter on hold.
- People are still interacting with him elsewhere.
- Twitter starting going to shit a year ago, which may be a factor but I'm not certain. The timing is right though.
- He started privately working on a new project that wasn't the Android-trashbin-cat project that he previously was posting about publicly. He went from a public development to a private one when his main project shifted. (I will not elaborate further on this, but I swear on it.)

I think it's valid to think he might have gotten burnt out with his flow of art or became disinterested/distracted from using that social media platform, but I can certify "because of his audience" was not a factor. There are still connections between him and some of his fans (and I'm not referring to Alula exclusively here).

 

I didn't put the blame solely on the audience, just a contributing factor.
I just miss seeing the drawings he did lol, but they were really high detail given how he sprites stuff
Doing a line pass then going in and doing AA and other shit takes a LONG time though.

 

I finally made that comic, I like them and I'll make more soon enough.

 

This has that chaotic vibe that shorts from certain youtube channels got. Can't wait for more

She understands the assignment. Honestly tho yeah, maybe these comics can go in their own thread at this point.

 

the last Ame he posted before taking his twitter hiatus is still probably one of my favorite pieces he's ever drawn. I love that particular Ame very much.

 

This is kinda off topic but this thread is the main place where people are discussing Pixel's twitter account.

Does anyone know why this image was deleted?


It was uploaded on December 20th 2022 for when Cave Story turned 18 years old. It was really cool to see Pixel draw Sue again, but the post was deleted a few days later. I had to go on a crazy web hunt in order to find it again in full quality. Does anyone know why Pixel would delete it?

 

Not that anyone would ever really be able to ask Pixel, but given the number 18 is right next to Sue, who is consistently portrayed as a minor in the game, there may have been an unintentional implication that Sue is at the age where it's um, okay to be portrayed in a sexual fashion. And I can imagine that Pixel either caught that or was informed of it, and had to delete it before things snowballed out of control.
