Why does it seem like cave story is very obscure?

Cave story is the game that started the trend of indie gaming so why is cave story not getting that much attention these days?, a lot of people around my age have never even heard of cave story!

The huge thing with Cave Story is, unlike other indie games, Cave Story's fanbase is VERY fragmented. r/CaveStory and the CSTSF usually have no involvement with each other, for example.

Also, if you wanna get technical, Shantae started the indie trend in 2002.

the game is rated E10+ so it's ok if I know about it

 

There's also a bunch of foreign language players who adhere to the same rules.
There's also the different Cave Story Discrds. The community is in so many pieces, but if you put them together the community would be gargantuan.

I mean, the CSMC and CSE servers are in a way branched under the CSTSF, unless you mean there's a whole lot more most of us aren't aware about

Oh an btw why does everyone forget about the CS Amino, they're cool folks.

 

I would imagine that there is a nice number of people that know about the game, but the amount that actually currently plays it or talks about it is very small compared to that.
Even if it started a trent, it's still an old 2004 game. It's not like people are talking about things like Rogue or Ultima all the time.
