We just killed a fairy and got some cake to give to the sheriff of the town we were just in.

I had you at 110. It was probably because of the Dark Fairy fight.
Also, you learned the spell =Enhance=. You can sacrifice all of your Magic for the duration of the battle to multiply the EXP gain by 1.5.

You walk towards town.
As you near the border of the forest, you hear someone.
"Hey, you came back to fight!"
When you see Yami-Chan walking toward you, you bolt toward town, explaining that it's nothing against her, you just really want cake.
You meet up with the Sheriff, and he thanks you for getting his cake back.
He gives each of you a slice, including the you that aren't here.
The cake is more delicious than other cake! Each of you gains 2 permanent HP!
