You do know that Cthulhu is an Eldritch monster from HP Lovecraft's "Call of Cthulhu" and not just a Cave Story character, right? I am pretty sure they are not referencing CS

I am entirely sure that he does not read a classic horror literature such of H. P. Lovecraft's and etc.
Although one may have heard Cthulhu at least some where.
But because it is just an (or a giant floating) eye, and we never see Cthulhu anywhere, the maker may have gotten inspiration from AG's translation somehow.

This is, of course, just a speculation, and I am not entirely fixed on the idea.

 

So you are saying it's more likely that the creators of Terraria drew inspiration from a Cave Story character, who stands around and does nothing, than the giant, mind-raping tentacled horror alien from the extremely famous works of HP Lovecraft for the design of a giant, evil eye?

Lol this is true. And yeah that's what I was getting at.

As I mentioned in the thread discussing this, I still don't know how the CS Cthulhus are related to the actual one. If I missed something, feel free to yell at me.

 

I still don't know, though, if in the japanese version he is still Cthulhu?
But since I don't think Aeon Genesis won't pulll something from his ass, it may likely be still something like Katuru or stuffs like that.

Are there even Lovecraftian horrors sold in Japan?

For me it's my graphics card drivers that don't want to update.
