I agree with this idea.

A bit of a rewrite:
1. By making an account and posting, we will assume that you have beaten Cave Story fully, and are at least 13 or have an equivalent maturity level. There will be unmarked spoilers regarding the game and, in some sections, swearing.

2. Arguing and debating are allowed, and even encouraged to a certain degree. However, any instances of flaming/trolling/personal attacks or anything else the staff deems inappropriate will not be tolerated and will be dealt with immediately.

3. Don’t double post in an active thread. There is an "Edit" button on all of your posts.

4. No blatant spam posts are allowed. "Spam" is classified any post that does not follow or does not contribute to the current topic of discussion within a thread, or a topic created for seemingly no other reason than to increase one's postcount. Note this doesn't mean you're going to get in trouble for making a joke.

5. Off-topic posts are fine as long as they follow the flow of conversation, and the conversation returns to the original topic at the request of the thread starter, or a moderator or admin.

6. Don’t bump old threads unless you have something new to add to the conversation. Random bumps or 'continuations' of two-year-old conversations are not allowed.

7. Likewise, do not respond to dead threads when they are bumped to tell the person in question not to necrobump. Any such posts will be classified as spam and increase the chance of a thread being locked. Rouse at them using Visitor Messages or PMs if you must.

8. If a mod or admin deletes a post of yours, do not post in a thread asking why it was deleted. Both PMs and VMs are available for questioning moderation decisions. Any such posts or discussions arising from them will be considered off-topic and will also be deleted.

9. Try to put all threads in the proper subforum. Incorrectly placed threads will be moved, and a temporary redirect is typically left to point users in the right direction.

10. Include some content in your post. Simply quoting a post to show you agree with what it says is not appreciated.

11. Do not restart a thread that was closed or deleted by a mod/admin if the thread topic itself was the reason for its closing or deletion.

12. Don't use an overt amount of smileys in your posts, and please use special fonts, colors and sizes sparingly. Fully-coloured posts are not allowed.

13. Locations shouldn't be obscenely long (they stretch out the edge of the page), and signatures must not be greater than 500 pixels in length and/or 200 pixels in height.

14. Only one account is allowed per individual. Multiple accounts be banned/deleted. This includes making a new account after being banned.

15. No illegal material, be it pertaining to Cave Story or otherwise. This includes ROMs, illegal downloading of music, hacking the WiiWare Cave Story port, etc.

16. Pornographic content is not acceptable directly on the board. Please link any porn that you wish, and provide suitable warning. If you post porn links repeatedly and ungraciously you’ll be asked to stop, and, should you not stop, you’ll be banned.

17. The general banning process occurs as warnings -> infractions -> temporary ban -> permanent ban, but the site staff hold the right to skip these steps if they feel it is necessary. 12- to 24-hour bans may also be given out for bad behaviour, and do not require any history of rule-breaking in order to be imposed.

18. The SPOT subforum in the Satellite Lounge is a place where the spam-posting rule is more lax, however all other rules still apply. What is allowed or not allowed is determined by the moderators and admins of this forum.

19. Don’t ask if you can become a mod or admin here.

Editor's note: Didn't we agree they had to be linked in spoiler tags?
No. It was external links with sufficient warning.

Yes I was thinking the same thing but for a different reason. The names SPOT and Satellite Lounge tend to be more creative than descriptive.

Why did you remove the deletion of bumped posts part?

I feel that whatever action a mod or admin takes in regards to a breaking of the rules needn't be determined by the rule list itself but rather by the mod/admin in question. Well that's my opinion anyway.

hey sorry for the double post?

I guess unless anyone has any issues these rules should be made official?
Maybe deleting the old threads and making a new one with these in them would help?

The old rules threads will be unstickied when this one is posted. If andy's happy with them, I'll give them one last going-over and then post it.

I thought the purpose of updating the rules was to avoid that?

Disable creating new threads in the SPOT?

All of the threads created in the SPOT are either threads like these, which are neither spam nor off topic, and don't belong in the SPOT, or this kind of thing, which probably shouldn't even be created at all.

I propose that the SPOT should function SOLELY as a place to move off topic threads, rather than locking them (so that if people really want to talk about bbqpizza, curly's panties, or what happens in chaco's house, they still have a place to do so, but it doesn't add to their postcount).

What say y'all?

On a somewhat related note, could someone please inform me of where posts do and don't count currently? There was a lot of restructuring of the forums during my prolonged absence.

Re: Disable creating new threads in the SPOT?

I proposed such a change before, but people threw a hissy fit since they wanted to be able to make threads like "OMGWTFBBQPIZZA".

I think we should just disable new threads in all forums because every good one has already been made

I have merged these threads since they are basically discussing the same thing. Also I think anyone who would read the new thread should read this older thread too.

How about this - we disable new threads in the spot, and have a single stickied thread there for random dicking around (since all those bbqpizza-like threads are pretty much identical, and there's no reason to have more than 1)? That solves the problem without restricting people's ability to dick around.

And neither of you answered my question :sue:.

I don't pay attention to postcount so I don't know where it does and doesn't count. I think something like everywhere but satellite lounge and subsets

I suppose I'm pro- on the issue of not having thread creation in the SPOT. If people use it as general offtopic discussion, that could easily go in the Satellite Lounge superforum as long as the thread is forum quality. If the thread isn't passable then they shouldn't be making it in the first place and maybe need to sit down and think about what they're doing with their lives.

Indeed. Also, after reading through the posts in the old thread, apparently andwhy also suggested stopping SPOT thread creation and having one sticky thread for dicking around. Seeing as there was no dissent to this idea (there certainly wasn't any "hissy fit") I have to wonder why it wasn't implemented. Was it just forgotten?

This seems like a good idea, but I don't think that one stickied thread should replace thread creation in the SPOT. Sometimes I want to stick to a certain topic of discussion, but that topic might not be... suitable for the real forums.
