Sound/Music

Is there any way to completely disable the sound & music in cave story without having to do so for the rest of my computer? this is the one thing that's keeping me from playing this game.

I wish. Too many times have I been playing Cave Story and wanted to play it to my favorite songs.

 

Short of hex editting you can't get rid of sound effects, but if you're patient enough, go through all the CS scripts and get rid of every instance of "<CMU####"

 

Maybe someone can make a Version without Sound?

 

That would take awhile, not exactly worth the effort, don't you think? Hey Rrty, why do you want the sound to go away? Same reason as me? Or something else? If you just don't like the music, just turn the sound off.

Turn your comp speakers off and use an MP3 player?

I can see if .tsc files open in TextPad... it'd be much easier to do a find-and-remove that way. Then I could make a musicless version...

Actually I think an easier way might be to use Orgmaker to just change every song to silence. I've never used it but I'd imagine that would be possible to do, and much easier and more reliable than TSC editing. I mean, just open one song, select-all-delete, open the next song...

Either way do keep the sound effects... they're useful.

for all the pplz that wanna play without the music (personally i love the music, but oh well) here it is:
Doukutsu-(no music).exe

All you have to do is extract this into your cavestory folder, and run it.
Alternatively, you could rename the .exe to just doukutsu if you want to use the desktop shortcut.

should prbbly say more seeing as it's a post, but i'll just use these words to take up the space.

and also it works while u play itunes in the background, but you cant play orgmaker in the background for some reason (just cuz the way org maker works i think)

The one thing about sound effects that does annoy me is the *CRASH* when you die.
It's very frustrating when you're 3 HP-ing Hell. >:E

Err... What's so frustrating about that, considering that you hear that innoying sound when you've already died and epicly failed the 3 HP run? I mean, it won't be distracting you while you're attempting the run, because you're ALREADY DEAD.

I said frustrating, not distracting. =_=

Smetimes it pisses me off so much I switch off my speakers even though the track playing is Running Hell.
