Thanks! And it's certainly most definitely not just an edit of the original. *cough*yesitisbutyoudon'tneedtoknowthat*cough*

Even if it is, it's different enough. Heh. :J

Re: Show of your custom characters!

While helping out with this mod, I made a generic mimiga base for people to make their own mimiga characters. Now with 100% more sexy naked mimiga, if you're into that sort of thing.

Also finally made a sheet of my avatar, using my own base. I'm oddly more fond of the scuffed up injured version.

Also, zombies.

I didn't. Ever played Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask?

Got the moon picture from a screenshot of it, just did a bit of formatting.

Yes, of course.
I just don't understand the process really.

At first I was like "Wait, what did I do?" Then I noticed the tiny moon I made. Awesome, I approve~

One problem though, doesn't the .pbm format *coughactually.bmpcough* have a heavy limit on usable colors? It might look mighty wonky with messed up colors, unless replacing it with a new file altogether eliminates the limit because it's, well, a new file. *Not as savvy as I'd like to be on these things*

There's no limit. If you just save it as a 24-bit bmp, then you can use all the colours.
If you save it as 8-bit, you get 256
If you save it as 4, you get 8
etc.

Re: Show of your custom characters!

As long as it's in the indexed mode, it's all good.

Most CS graphics are in indexed (16 colors), but it seems to be able to accept at LEAST 128 colors.
This happens to be 32. I tested it, it works fine.

EDIT: I don't care if I got ninja'ed by Nox and Ollie... I'm saying it anyway.

And basically, Ollie, I found this pic:
p156299-0-moon.jpg

and cropped it so it was just the moon.
Then I reduced the resolution and number of colors in GIMP.
Next, I made the red version using the colorize tool.
And for the final form of the boss, I just replaced the eyes and teeth with the dark surrounding color. Simple as that!

Re: Show of your custom characters!

Hum, I see. I tried straight up editing some .pbm's in paint before and all the colors got -really- bayed up when I tested it out. I ended up making my very first MyChar spritesheet in CaveEditor, which was a flippin' PAIN because it's nothing but a pencil tool for sprite editing. Alright, good to know. Thanks much.

Re: Show of your custom characters!

Use GIMP. A sprite artist of your caliber deserves a decent tool.

EDIT: Really, whatever works for you. I just think paint sucks.

I would prefer that you http://getpaint.net because that's my tool of choice. It's simple like MS Paint, but so much more fully featured!

You know... I have GIMP, yet the only time I've implemented it in spriting is making gradients to get decent anti-aliasing colors. The hell is wrong with me, I could've been using layers this whole time. ಠ_ಠ

Edit: Or Getpaint, I'll try that out too.

Re: Show of your custom characters!

I love detective Gero xD Awesome man!

Oh and about photo editing software - the free stuff (mentioned a few posts above) Paint.net is much better for spriting. I agree with what Noxid said. If you are doing more advanced things then GIMP would be more suitable but for spriting Paint.NET is much simpler and easier to maneuver - it was originally created as an extension of Paint. Paint is also suitable but they are a few more goodies in Paint.NET :D Although generally it is personal preference between NET and GIMP

Re: Show of your custom characters!

I would argue that GIMP is more of a photoshop-esque program, used to edit photos rather than to draw them from scratch.

You knew it was a detective!! :D
Yaaay!
And yeah, GIMP probably is better for that kind of stuff, but I use it for all kinds of spriting work. It's got all the basic tools, and you can use it for a quick recolor/effect/whatever if needed, which is helpful.
