Saving Curly...
Maybe one cannot appreciate saving Curly Brace as much, as if you were to not save her. If you leave her behind, won't you wonder what you might be missing? Do you really want to create a world where she no longer exists?
If Curly Brace were saved without the player's involvement or didn't need saving... then this thread probably wouldn't exist in any shape or form.
In fact I found Curly Brace a little annoying when I first played the PC Cave Story
She seemed a bit LOUD!
And Dude... she attacked me without even giving me a choice! Getting blown up by a machine gun isn't VERY NICE! MAYBE I
SHOULD BE A KILLER ROBOT!
But, then... why did I stop before beating the game when I discovered Curly Brace really wasn't coming back, when I hadn't discover the steps you had to take to save her?
I restarted before beating the game so I could save her, even peeking at the first clue to saving Curly (the jump!?).
I couldn't find a way to save Toroko... so was I just making up for that, by making sure Curly lived?
Maybe so... at first. But, the more time spent with Curly, the more she grew on me.
If you want an in-game response... Without Curly Brace, Quote would probably never be whole again. Quote probably has amnesia, and without Curly, Quote will only live in the present. His true past would probably stay lost, and the lively, sometimes annoying, but cheerful and by your side: Curly Brace, most of all would not be there. Living with Sue might not be all bad (assuming they don't try to shut Quote down or something till he's needed...), but you might wonder as the days pass... if you were meant for something more...

1. No, when she regains her memories she remembers that Quote and her were different.
2. This is not explicitly stated. For all we know they died of causes unrelated to robots.
3. Points 1 and 2 are compromised, so point 3 is no longer valid.
1. Yep... she's not a killer robot according to her testimony using truth mushroom
2. The colons/korons/"those darn kids", in Cave Story Wii and +; one of the Mimigas say that "the robot" killed their parent(s?), but raised them too.
I didn't copy the +'s script but... Here's the wii one
"@Koron2@
{
Our real mother was killed long-
ago by the robot.
And she's the one who raised us,
even before we could open our eyes.
}
"
Still, there is at least room for doubt. Although it surely sounds like "the robot" would be "she" aka Curly.
But, a kid might say "the monster killed my mom", *then... points to Curly* "And she raised us" (meaning the monster and Curly are differnet subjects)
But, then again why would Curly raise the Mimiga children? Surely she could have tracked down *Some* other Mimiga to raise the children... However, if she believes that she killed the parent, then she would probably decide to inherit the duty of raising them.
The big issue though, is what REALLY happened. She says she woke up with the kids. So, why does she have this selective memory that she might have been a killer robot, and is all for the Mimigas. How does she know she killed the parent if it happened before waking up with the kids?
If I were to take a guess, I'd say Jenka might have told Curly some things; or only fragments of her memory are missing. (When she loses her memory again after drowning, she still recognizes the Mimiga mask Quote as a Mimiga, and talks about watch out for the bad robots...)
Hmm...
3. -___- Curly would probably just smile and go "I'm not a human!"
(At least in the + script, apparently humans are evil according to Booster and hell dialogue? (second hand knowledge for hell dialogue))
Hmmm...
