Save points on the island

Maybe each floppy disc contains the cooridinates that it's located at, and Quote can use that data to respawn there if he explodes. But Quote, being the silly robot he is, can only store 1 set of these cooridinates at a time, and these can be changed by manually hacking his "profile.dat".

 

If it exists for only the player and Quote to see, then why are there buildings erected just to have a Save Point inside of them in Mimiga Village and Grasstown? The area is even titled "Save Room" or something to that effect.

The Cave Story world is a magical land, where text suddenly appears above you when you go through a door.

Maybe the NPC's don't notice the signs, and when looking inside the building, assume its empty. This would explain the ones inside Chaco and Santa's homes.
And the names of maps I thought was outside of the game, I don't think the first thing Kazuma thought of upon leaving Egg 0's room was "Outer Wall"

Quantum immortality.

Imagine a variation of the many worlds theory, where each save creates a divergence point. If you die, your consciousness cannot cease to exist, because there are other realities in which you still live. so, you shift over to one of those realities whenever you die, starting at the chronologically closest save point. Those save points DO work for everyone, but only from their own point of view.

It explains EVERYTHING!

 

As I said with the life capsules I just think of them as gameplay mechanics.

I belive thse save points are some elaborate scheme set up by the doctor to make Quote question his sanity. He saw the future and prepared in advance. Oh yeah, I went there.

Quote can have Ultra Sight Goggles!!!
And he can be the only who can see SPs!

 

What about the recharge stations?
They usually come paired with the save points after all...

Probably yes, I think nobody can use them. Except Quote.
