Quote can SPEAK?!

I have just finished Curly Story. And it confused me how in Quote's story, he never talks, yet in Curly's story, he just outright says "Curly!! It's me! Quote!". Does he just have dementia so bad that he forgot that he had a mouth and thought he was mute? Is this cannon? Can he actually talk?

I took a picture of Quote saying this on my Galaxy Tab A 8, so sorry if the quality seems bad.

 

curly story isn't canon i refuse to believe it, but if you pay attention to the dialogue in the original game, he does speak, we just don't see it, which is a pretty common 'silent' protagonist trope

characters react as if he's communicated beyond simple gestures - asking people about sue, telling jack toroko's been kidnapped, telling malco about kazuma being trapped, asking jenka about the red flowers... etc

All things considered, it is interesting how Curly story is really inconsistent with the way it handles Quote and Curly's speech. There are some instances in which it's implied that Curly speaks, but it doesn't show it, but then there are some instances in which she does talk and her words are shown. And then in Curly's interactions with Quote, his words aren't shown but it's implied that he's said something, but then the style changes where Quote's words are briefly shown. Things got really inconsistent when NICALiS took over.

It's like Mario in those cool Mario and Luigi Games. But I don't imagine him blabbering on about things.
