Yeah, I know how it is. My music got somewhat popular when I was in high school when I did a remix of the school song for some event. Since then though, I haven't really been super active.

Well, it was nice talking to you, but I've got nothing more to say and it's probably not a great idea to carry on a conversation in a thread like this. See you around, though.

You have some neat ideas, but execution could use some work - which is to be expected from a first track.
Your instruments all sound very similar, and they're mostly at similar volumes, which can create some uncomfortable dissonance even with chords that should sound normal. I don't know if you were trying for a more 8-bit sound, but I think it could still benefit you to find some different samples to work with. If you don't have many sounds, anyone here could link you to good resources if you're interested.
Other than that, the composition and use of effects was good. Drums were a little uninteresting, but they served their purpose.
Do post more of your work once it's finished! This thread could use a boost in activity. I'd love to see your .ptcops as well, which can be attached to posts as files. It would help people give more specfic advice, and can be downloaded and edited to demonstrate something.

By the way, the page you link is https://soundcloud.com/jeremy-er-1/darkcity but the file is actually at https://soundcloud.com/axolotlet/darkcity now. If you could fix that it would be easier for other people to find.

I guess "samples" was kind of vague - there's lots of instruments available in .ptvoice but also you can use any sounds in .wav or .ogg form as instruments in pxtone, and there are great sources for .wav instrument "samples" all over the internet.

I can point you to a few resources that I use, but it's really up to you what kind of samples you look for based on the kind of music you're making.
http://pxtone.haru.gs/english/support.html has links to a few useful "instrument packs" made specifically for Pxtone. Pepofont is one that I've used somewhat often.

If you're looking to write in a style that emulates older game systems (which is what a lot of people seem to use Pxtone for) you could have a look through http://little-scale.blogspot.com/search/label/sample%20sets. That's where I got the YM2413 synth samples that I use now. http://www.adventurekid.se/akrt/waveforms/akwf-nes-8-bit-free/ has 8-bit NES samples that I've used in the past as well (with the "loop" function.)
You can find all sorts of other sounds for other styles of music just by googling "free instrument samples" and looking for sounds in .wav format.
Lastly, you can export instruments from other people's .ptcops by opening them up in Pxtone Collage. This can be especially helpful because you get to hear how they're used. http://pxtone.haru.gs/english/ is probably one of the best sources of .ptcop files but it can be a little hard to follow.

I'd love to see other people chime in on this too, though, because I'm probably not giving the best advice and there's other people with a lot more experience than me.

Hey, though I'd share my latest (and only, to date) pxtone creation.
It's a remix of a song I wrote for my band The Monotremes, the original of which is

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6JEe70hs2s

Writing lots of alternating time signatures, including tempi changes and dealing with pretty much the whole tune in 7/4 in pxtone was a huge challenge, given the format of the main window.

I've had to create four separate files and use a DAW to compile them, in order to accommodate the tempi changes.
This is probably unprofessional and perhaps offensive to any purists out there.

So apologies for any offensive faux pas I may have made in the production of this track, feedback on sounds, balance, etc. would be great, as I'd love to be able to build on any 'authenticity' for the purposes of improving writing in this medium.

chippysthedoggy - No York (pxtone)

[I can upload the separate sections as .ptcop files, but they will still need putting together.]

Very nice - and nice original, too, I like the horns. Who are you in the video?
In terms of criticism, the only thing I can really say is that the bass seems very quiet throughout, or at least up until around 1:20. Even if it's meant to be quiet, it's barely audible as of right now. Cool effects, though; I don't use much stereo in my songs, so it's refreshing to see it used so well, especially with the sweeping arpeggios and such.

Really amazing! I like the HiHat (and everything else, but the HiHat struck me at the very beginning as awesome)

I had a 4 track EP released through Piston Source, you can get the PtCop's here:

EDIT: Shit, I just realized I posted this one page back, I guess this thread hasn't been super active haha

Support the Piston Source label and download their other releases as well!

Sounds interesting. I think you should speed it up just a bit though.

This is pretty good, but I agree, it should either be sped up a bit, or have a little more going on.

First time using PXtone, experimented a bit with instruments and pitchbending and stuff.

I've just released another set that I've been working on for quite a while.
Plenty more information about it on the page.
As usual I'll upload .ptcops if anyone wants.

I think Lost Waiting was my favorite of the 6, I like pxtone funk in general though.

Haha this was neat. I like it.
