I was trawling through Pixel's site on the web archive and noticed a rather interesting line by chance:

実行ファイルと同じフォルダに「LOVE」というファイルを作ると…。
..which Google translates to:

When you create a file called "LOVE" in the same folder as the executable file ....
I proceeded to do this by creating a new .txt file in the same folder as Azarashi and renamed it to "LOVE" without any extension. The result? Seals start crying when you hit them instead of spewing blood.

ohhhh
I was wondering what the blue blobs were used for when I was ripping the resources
it all makes sense now

iirc he uses the "love" file as a flag in some other games, too.

What games? I couldn't get anything to happen in anything else Pixel made.

Wow! This is so ridiculously obscure and small. I love it. :D

I wonder if there are other Easter eggs no one's really found yet?

Except that you can't normally mess with the files on an iPhone.

There must be a reason he uses LOVE as a flag? is it just a random word, or does it have a deeper meaning?

(probably a random word)

This is on the PC version, not the iOS one.

It's weird, I've already known this from somewhere. I actually remember doing this. This is weird.

Using a file as a flag has been done before on at least one other Pixel game, though I can't remember what game or the name of the file, but it wasn't "LOVE".

If The Cutting Room Floor is correct (I can't check myself, I'm afraid), creating blank files called "fps" and "mute" in Cave Story's directory would re enable the FPS counter (always at a steady 50, of course) and a menu that let's you disable certain sound channels. So there's that. But that's less of an Easter egg and more of a debug thing, right? Assuming it isn't somehow misinformation.

Confirmed. You can only access the mute options from windowed view though, not fullscreen.

So that's how you activate the FPS Counter under normal conditions...

...I've just been using <FL+=856 to enable it.

It probably just works for PC. But you could use iExplorer to open up the game files.
