It depends if he has O-positive or O-negative blood. O-negative is universal to all negatives and all positives while O-positive is universal to all positives only.

Exactly that. O+ can donate to O+, AB+, A+ and B+, whereas O- can donate to O+/-, AB+/-, A+/- and B+/-.
