• Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

Ok Me, Myself & I thought of an intresting idea a Multiplayer Cavestory, you know how? By Creating An Adventure afterwards where you (player 1/ Quote) & Your Freind (Player 2 /Curly/Balrog/heck even misery are going around doing an adveture in the caves of say the himalyans (if there are any) so if any one agrees help me figure out a way to suggest to Pixel

PS It would be a option to play multiplayer in say Cavestory 2

Have fun doing that.

Wait, suggest to Pixel? But you already have two others working with you. Yourself, you part two...I don't think you'll need the help of Pixel with two times the help.

If multiplayer added, it would pretty be much like New Super Mario Bros. Wii, where the level screen get's wider when the other player's further back, up until they face their death from colliding with an object while being pushed forward by the screen boundary.

Haven't quite a few people tried to make multiplayer Cave Story games before?
Like Doukutsunetto?
Or this GM8 one?

No to mention that sonicfandude1's version of Cave Story 2...
Perhaps we will one day see a multiplayer Cave Story game. I have my doubts.
But I also have faith that we may see one.
Some faith.

EDIT: Are you sonicfandude1, by any chance?

Uhh.. guys? He is talking about offline multiplayer. As in two people playing on the same machine. Those hundreds of other threads were all about online multiplayer.

Actually that makes me wonder if offline multiplayer can be worked into Akantares.

Ugh... Cave Story with scaling sprites? No thanks. I would prefer the split screen.

Maybe not in the current Cave Story engine. (Who knows, some ingenious modder may one day accomplish this task), but it is possible with a custom-made engine, so long as the basic mechanics of Cave Story are still intact with in the game.

It still doesn't change the fact that the game just wasn't designed with multiplayer in mind and doesn't really have core mechanics that are conducive to multiplayer play.

My vision for co-op CS:
Double total health, somewhat increased difficulty, but as a bit of a twist both players will pool from the same weapon ammo, health bar and equipped items, plus all inventory and weapons. The equipped weapon (which weapon they are holding) would not be pooled though. Players would be able to equip the same or different weapons from each other. Only player 1 can bring up the inventory screen or map. Weapons cannot be equipped from the inventory screen, only via weapon cycle. No split screens. Both players can trigger events. Camera follows player 1. If player 2 falls off the screen for over 5 seconds then instadeath to both players.

Well, in my opinion - multiplayer Cave Story seems likes a really neat idea. And if you have ideas to make it work, then, like, why not? I'm not really tech savvy so I'm not sure if cooperative play is possible, but if it is, then I don't see a problem with it. Go for it.

Yah... PVP would have to drastically change the core mechanics of the game in order to make it work design-wise, making it not feel like Cave Story anymore.

The best option probably would be Co-Op, like AndWhy suggested. You could still have most of the mechanics (like mercy-invincibility and weapons becoming significantly stronger) without sacrificing too much if the players weren't against each-other.
