Well, it's official: Dragon Boots has slept!

...

As long as sleeping isn't exclusive to the night...

Either way, I've got a question about flags:

Which ones stick (I mean number wise, I'm not talking skipflags) and which don't?

I've had some trouble with this kind of thing:
You get an item, the sprite disappears (pick-up sparkle).
You leave the room then come back and save, it's still gone.
You save and exit, and it comes back.

Kinda annoying when the item in question is a 25 shot Bubbler, granting it the potential to be INFINITE through repeated get-n'-saves...

Yes I realize a 25 bubble Bubbler is a weak weapon, but the description explicitly states:
"More of a childs toy, really..."

Also, due to the odd glitches presented by having limited ammo on some weapons, I'll just have Bubbler, MG, Missile Launcher and (never tested this yet, but maybe a) Nemesis...

Though the Fireball on empty auto switch to Polar Start is kinda cool...

Well, progress report time...
I have:
Re-written the head script... mostly.
Created 40/94 maps... In blank form...

I am:
Compiling a storyline that forks from the start of the game, whether you choose to time your run (hard) or not (easy).

After the my custom intro and a boo through the normal menu, selecting new game:
p27518-0-install.jpg

Then you are informed you are online:
p27518-1-online.jpg

Yes or no:
p27518-2-activate.jpg

Then to the start area (not finished, if you chose no, you come here without the timer activated):
p27518-3-start.jpg

Yes, that is a modded Quote sprite at the bottom, and yes he has no hat.

You're right.
Well, he has no ears, so why would he need headphones?

Then players in my mod will have to find the modded Mimiga Mask in order to have old-school Quote.
Ooops.
Big mouth.
Oh well.
There's still 7 other ways to get to the end.

Seven? Seven different endings? Gawd.

Oh, and maximum map limit is 128.

No, not endings, but play throughs.
And there are...
*Does math*
8 ways to get to then end.

There are 2 paths: Nessesity and Yearning...

One is about the bare essentials, what you need to survive, but leads to a greater understanding.

The other is about what you want, and leads to prizes and items galore, but is filled with danger.

But the two paths do not stay seperate.
They [Converge twice times (and also at the ending - same end either way, just with different stuff).
At these points, you choose either to stay on the path you're on or take the other.
However, once you choose a path at a point of Convergence, you can't go back and must wait for the next point, if there is one.

I'm going to do is divide the weapons, equipment and other fun items (Life Pot(s), Arms Barrier...) so they're only accessable in certain paths...
For instance, the first gun in Nessesity is the Bubbler. But throught Yearning there are several bubbler upgrades, but they're only accessable if you have the Bubbler from Nessesity. You must cross paths to get the best Bubbler. However, this might prevent you from getting a good number of other weapons, as by not taking Yearning you skip the weapons Dump.

Also, at about the mid point, there is a Challenge, where both paths become one to test what you've aquired/learned. However, it forces you back on the path you were on when you finish, but gives you a reward from the other path. Say a Life Pot from Nescessity if you were on Yearning and the Machine Gun from Yearning if you were on Nescessity.

As an additional feature, I'm incorperating a time from the get-go.
If you turn it on, you can never save though. And if you time it, it becomes a lot harder.

Now that the guts of Cave Story: Yearning and Nescessity have been made public, I guess I'll be warrented to awnser any questions.

Oh, and RE: the map limit is 128 - I'm doing this in exactly 70 maps.

Well, 72 counting the intro (Last map intro = WTFOMGNMS) and a random credits thing that I am dreading the scripting for... But will get done... Maybe by final release.

Also: If you wanna know a secret: The Spur doens't exist... officially~

Lolk. I can't continue my mod as well, what with the flags unactivating after you exit the game. Same problem as you I guess?

Actually, I figured that out with some help from S. P. Gardbiter...s website.

Turns out that only flags number 7999 and under save with profile.dat, the rest are discarded.
Sooo...
Yeah.
Also, since I wiped all the base maps, I can use nearly any flag I want...
With the odd exception presented by the Arms and Item tsc files... And flag #200... The boss flag. Mhm.

My hatless Quote can beat up your hat-wearing Quote.

Also, I got the hat to be an equip item...
You can take it on and off. *Happy Dance*
