I always thought Ma Pignon was a female...

OR maybe s/he's like Mushroom Queen/King.

I say it's a female, cause they never let your forget ANYTHING...

Ma Pignon was an outcast among other mushroom in the graveyard. When MP was born it was considered a threat by the other mushrooms to their existance because it showed signs of being more powerful than them. When the gravekeeper tried to end it once and for all, it made a huge leap out of fright and discovered the secret storehouse where Cthulthu lived. Cthulthu taught it the art of cloning and teleportation. Cthulthu realised that MP was way more powerful than he had anticipated, he decided to abandon the storehouse and move to other places in the caves.
Ma Pignon can not only restore memories, but also erase them or even modify them, as it did to Cthulthu, although the latter still has vague memories of MP. It was responsible for erasing Quote and Curly's memories.
