Search results came up completely empty, and I think this is big enough for it's own thread, sssooo....
M.U.G.E.N.
Bascially, it's this Fighting Game Engine, like Mortal Combat or something, that was originally developed by Elecbyte.
Something didn't go right {I can't remember if they said anything or not}, and the Engine's still in a Beta stage, two years after the first Beta release...
Luckily, some people picked it up and kept it alive, and it's grown ever since.
It was originally designed with this really cool idea:
Anyone and everyone made their own original characters, using MUGEN's formats. That includes looks, sounds, fighting styles, special attacks, and a lot more, if you're creative enough.
A lot of people didn't take this to heart, and so 70% or so of all of the MUGEN characters out there {and that's a lot, as I've never found one site with them all} are characters from other games, shows, or something, redone for MUGEN.
Now, take a bit to think of what this means...
Yeah.
Homer Simpson VS Peter Griffion {They even have a special intro for when the two fight each other}
Mario Mario VS Megaman
Super Buu VS Alien Warrior
Link VS Abyss
SandBag VS Arthur {From Ghosts and Ghouls}
Mouse Cursor VS Master Hand
Killer Whale VS Mickey Mouse
Rayman VS Sonic
Tron Bonne VS Sasuke
Omega {Final Fantasy} VS Luigi Mario
ETC, I think you get the point.
And these are just a few characters from my measly database, which is really small......I'm still looking for more and more characters.
Here are some links to help get you guys started:
MUGENation {Half the place is in spanish or something, and links all the downloads to the original maker's sites, so half the stuff doesn't work anymore....}
MUGEN-Infantry {I just now found this place, so I can't give a warning or anything about it}
MUGEN {You're going to need the original Beta thing, right?}
Hey, I found some neat tutorials!! Even for things I didn't know could be fixed
Here's a better solution to fixing the skittery music problem.
The rest is easy to find with Google, but be warned, this requires a lot of work just to play.
After you get the original bit up and running, a smart thing to do is find a Skin to put over it. Skins not only make everything look cooler, but also make things a bit easier when playing, and sometimes even allow more character slots {There's one with like 1000 slots, if I remember right}
Then, for each character and stage you get, you have to manualing put them into MUGEN. For this, you can figure it out just by reading the MUGEN files, but if a lot of people are having a hard time doing it, I guess I could put up examples...
Stages also come in two parts, don't forget to set their music and have it in the Sound Folder...
I also recommend a 6 button contoller, as it makes standard specials a lot easier.
Anyways, if anyone finds and special and rare characters {Like Kamek, I think his author all but removed him...}, or awesome sites for MUGEN, please post the links here! ^.^
It's kinda hard to find the best characters.
Which reminds me, since all of the characters for MUGEN {'cept Kung-fu-man, of course} were all made by different people, their balances all differ, so you'll either have to fix them yourself, or just exclude the cheapest of the cheap.
And, since I haven't really figured out how the MUGEN Editor works yet, and this is the Cave Story Tribute Forums, is anyone interested in creating Cave Story characters for MUGEN?
The biggest problem, of course, would be sprites. {There's no way in hell we could get away with the original Cave Story sprites..}
And sound, unless we want them to be mute. =D
Anyways, Enjoy! {Holy crap, this took so long to write that it signed me out...}
EDIT:
Ok, some examples...
Godzilla and King Gihdorah team up to take down Giga Bowser
Jesus takes on God
Prinny throw down, dood!!
