How to Play as any thing in cave story

i just figured this out today in the original cave story
right click>show package contents> Resources > Data

i recommend you make a copy of your original game the do this\

Next delete MyChar.pbm then copy a npc.pbm from the Npc folder put it where the MyChar.pbm was and rename it MyChar.pbm now i can play as a mimiga some sprites will be off just get a new one

I cant or at least i dont know how to give me some credit im 15
any ways i was able to get sue,misery,and some random mimiga from sandzone when you meat curly

i think im doing this wrong i take a pbm convert it into a png crop so i get the sprite i want then i put it convert it back to pbm the name it mychar and then the game doesn't work but at least i got the basics ^_^

but if you do know what im doing wrong please tell me

How to Edit PBMs

For the record, cave story's pbms are bitmaps. However, there is another type of file called a .pbm, so when you convert to .png and then back again, all you're really doing is ucking shi up.


And being 15 isn't an excuse to be ignorant - nor is it an excuse to have poor capitalization and grammar. I suggest you read your posts before posting them.

The first thing you want to do is change the image extension in cave editor to BMP, which converts all the PBMs to BMPs. Then you can edit mychar and any other file, but be sure to save it as a 24 bit BMP if you are using lots of colours. It isnt difficult to make a replacement character from scratch using the template that it originally was. Though keep the size of your character roughly identical to the original as without assembly, this is essential.

This is all information available elsewhere on the forum. But go ahead and experiment with replacing character sprites, weapon sprites, bullets etc. It's not difficult to replace it back with the original image if you mess up.
