How do I fix this glitch? It pops up when i try to save an edited map:

If I have to switch to SW, how do I change the intro map, and the start map.

Eh...

This should kinda be in the Cave Editor thread, where the creator of the program could help you...
Anyways, even Wistil would need more details before he could help you with this.

What did you do to the maps before you saved?
What did you do right before saving?
Did you alter anything else, besides just the map?
Did you use another program besides CE?
Are you sure you're using the latest version? {Although, I don't see how you could get an older one...}

Details, details, details....
We can't figure it out from just one picture :o;

Deleted 1 tile, even if I delete the entity or delete the whole map, it still gives that error.
I deleted 1 tile, and File>Save
My example was just deleting a single tile.
nope.
Yes.

Hmm.

That's all you did?

Well, there are a few possibilities....
Is the Data folder in the same folder as the EXE? CE saves to that folder, and if it's not in the right place, that could cause the error.
Is that a clean EXE? You already saw SW and CE don't play well together.
And you might've just gotten a bad download. Re-downloading CE might help.

Besides that, not sure what else. From the details given it seems to just be a random error, so the most likely cause would be a bad download...

void uses ce, I use sue's.

and...

you can't change the intro map in either sw or ce, and to change the starte map, switch to npc mode and right click and select "set player start position" or somesuch.

I think he meant redownload Cave Story, not Cave Editor.

Cave Editor.
And some other programs like Resource Hacker or Translhextion for things neither editor can do.

The only time I've ever had a problem like this is when I renamed the syntaxes of the maps, like {Weed} or {Sand}, because that's what the map files are saved under, and CE couldn't find the files I renamed those to because they didn't exist, so it couldn't save.

Err.... could it be because all of the image files that are involved in the map are read-only? (I'm referring to the maptile sheet used in the map) If I'm not wrong, the image files in the Cave Story Deluxe Package are read-only when you first download it. IF I'm not wrong.

That'll probably explain why even the slightest change in map design leads to an error met by the program when it tries to save over the read-only file.

Another possibility could be that you didn't set properties for each tile for that particular maptile sheet. This only happened to me in Sue's Workshop though. When you make a new maptile sheet, Sue's Workshop automatically gives all tiles on that maptile sheet the "Free Tile" property. If you map out a whole map out of free tiles, an error pops up when you try to enter the map during game play. Only happens when you enter the map, and not when you save it though.

Not sure if this helps :/

Chances are Metalogz is right. You should only get that error when saving the map in 2 different cases:
1) The map files are open in a program that holds a lock on the files (some hex editors).
2) The files are read only and for some reason Cave Editor can't change the file attribute to not be read only.

I'm assuming you don't have the files open in another program so you should be able to resolve the issue by changing the read only attribute of the files yourself.
