I have been thinking about this for a while:

what is your favorite (or one of your favorite) area(s) in Cave Story, and why?

To start, I love Labyrinth M because of the Labyrinth Fight org, and the fact the curly fights with you.

The Outer Wall. Nighttime, peace, serenity, and ghosts.
And of course, Moonsong. The place has a different atmosphere from most of the game.

I love outer wall, glad somebody chose it.

Living Waterway, the music is wonderful, it's tranquil, relaxing, or melancholy if you don't save curly :D

For the setting, I'd have to go with the core. The area's environment plus Geothermal make for a really nice emotional feel.
But for gameplay itself it's last cave.

Outer wall definitely.

And I guess Mimiga Village too. Kinda boring, but it's a cute place.

I haven't played in forever so I don't remember much else.

I'd have to say that my favorite places were Outer Wall, the Labyrinth, Balcony and the Waterway.

If it was rated for gameplay, it would either be Last Cave (Either version) or the Sacred Grounds.

I hadn't thought of this much, but I would have to say "Egg Corridor?" was my favorite. It had one of the best songs in the game, really good sprites, well used enemies and the falling spikes that kept you moving.

Defiantly the Outer Wall, just due to the unique music, gameplay (oh man stuff falls SIDEWAYS and you're going up man everything is backwards ahh). It's also pretty well designed, and the tilesets are really pretty, and did I mention the music? It's beautiful, to.

But to be honest there are quite a few really great zones in the game in terms of gameplay, it would be easier to say what areas I DON'T like.

Your avatar.

I like balcony the best in mood, since it seems like an area that's sad about being near the end of the game and sets the tone perfectly before the final boss battles. As for gameplay, I like the last cave (hidden) the best.

My favorite area is the Egg Corridor, because of many things.

Chiefly, it was the first area I ever used a level 3 polar, and it was the first area where I could really kick some butt.
Secondly, it got the game's momentum kicked off and going. After all that dialog and those cut-scenes, it was nice to be able to sit back, relax, and enjoy the Cave Story platforming goodness.

Thirdly, I liked how the computers in the room with the rocket launcher gave you clues to how to get through the forcefield. I felt like I could connect one thing to another, and that it felt like I was doing a quest in an RPG, without any help from a journal or a marker.
I also liked the enemies. The flies, the elephant things (as impossibly easy to ass by as they were), and the classic fluffy jumpy things, made for a delightful Cave Story environment.

Additionally, there was a good degree of difficulty befitting a first level. To go through it normally took no extra skill, but to get the life capsules required a bit of finesse. Also, considering I'd recently played a game that was all about jumping, it was a little tricky for me to get used to the way Quote jumped, so navigating through the corridor was a nice little challenge.

Lastly, I liked the music. It is one of my favorite tracks in the soundtrack, and it gave me a feel of wondrous adventure, and an opening up to a new world. It set the mood very well.

So that's basically why I like the original Egg Corridor area.

The first part of the Labrinyth, right when Misery chucks you in 'the garbage dump of the island'. That was pretty epic. What was awesome about it:

-The music
-The robot who tells you that he tried over and over again until he broke his legs
-The dead robot which suggested something
-The precise jumps needed to progress
-Seeing the robots blink and go 'wth?' when you finally open the door

When I first played cavestory Toroko was a hard fight for me. So reaching the labyrynth was really intense.

I agree. They're both tranquil, and I love the weird ghost cats, I forget their name, but I also like the Little House. They're just so tiny:mad:

I would go with Outer Wall and Balcony as well, reason pretty much already explained, but I guess I liked the Sand Zone too. It's huge, there are lots of enemies to slaughter (especially the bunch of green crows near the storehouse) and it has the right sort of music for it too, plus the puppy searching mission!
Oh, and that's where Quote first met Curly :p
