more to be added when new fads come out. I have Hype Aversion induced by lack of cash.

1. Email does text messaging, even free-er.
2. Teamspeak's free too. From what i read on their site, so is Ventrilo.
3. If i wanted to turn my computer into an oversized cellphone, sure, i'd dowload Skype.

No, no it doesn't. If it did, we'd just use CC: on our emails instead of having an IRC channel.

The program is free, but servers cost money to run. Also, Skype has file sharing (which I use often) and video calls (which no one uses).

Don't cellphone plans cost money, unlike Skype?

Why did I forget this?

And Skype is a lot more convenient than a damn cellphone. Fucking hate holding those things. And speaker phone can eat me.

Teamspeak has easily obtainable free server licenses. not sure about Ventrilo.

There's a thousand and one sites for that. Also, Dropbox.

Then why even mention them?

Doesn't running your computer cost money? the concept of "calling person X who also uses company Y is free" is pretty common, and unlimited text/email/data plans all exist.

TL;DR: Everything Skype can do, something else has already done better.

Skype is the convenience of having it all together. Why would you want to do file-sharing, video chat, etc on many different sites/ programs if you could just do it on one?

because all the separate options are better than the all-in-one.
did you know IRC does file transfers too?

Running a server with an address, a password, an administrator and who knows what else is nowhere near as convenient as just creating a Skype account and adding people to your contact list, not to mention that text messaging in TeamSpeak is iffy at best. Messaging and speaking at the same time is handy.

"Sure."

"Wow, that's a lot of dongs."

Much more straightforward than using a separate program that the other person may not have, or Dropbox where the other person would have to look through your folder(s).

You are using a computer right now. Are you going to get rid of it because you got a cellphone? No. You already have a computer, and using a cellphone costs money. Skype can also do group chats and calls for free, something which no cellphone has ever done.

It all either costs money and is less convenient or is free and less convenient. You're making uninformed assertions, because you haven't actually used Skype. I don't think it's too much to ask that you at least try to understand things that you don't get.

inb4 "you're a stubborn jackass" but i see really no reason to use Skype, ever, period. There are better alternatives for everything i've seen about Skype.

I will never understand why people watch these. I don`t take "being in love" as an answer. Man, once I saw a TALKING DOG in one of these tv-novels!! (maybe in Marimar or what was the series name) Then I switched off immediately :p

I'm guessing that's the result of some kind of brain damage? You shouldn't make fun of the mentally disabled, trickybilly.

Oh yeah: why is Japan so great, guys? They excell at electronics and going overboard with pretty much everything. That's all. Someone explain why teenagers all over the world are obsessed with this place.
