No, no it doesn't. If it did, we'd just use CC: on our emails instead of having an IRC channel.Malpercio said:1. Email does text messaging, even free-er.
The program is free, but servers cost money to run. Also, Skype has file sharing (which I use often) and video calls (which no one uses).Malpercio said:2. Teamspeak's free too. From what i read on their site, so is Ventrilo.
Don't cellphone plans cost money, unlike Skype?Malpercio said:3. If i wanted to turn my computer into an oversized cellphone, sure, i'd dowload Skype.

Teamspeak has easily obtainable free server licenses. not sure about Ventrilo.Captain Fabulous said:The program is free, but servers cost money to run.
There's a thousand and one sites for that. Also, Dropbox.Captain Fabulous said:Also, Skype has file sharing (which I use often)
Then why even mention them?Captain Fabulous said:and video calls (which no one uses).
Doesn't running your computer cost money? the concept of "calling person X who also uses company Y is free" is pretty common, and unlimited text/email/data plans all exist.Captain Fabulous said:Don't cellphone plans cost money, unlike Skype?
Malpercio said:TL;DR: Everything Skype can do, something else has already done better.
Running a server with an address, a password, an administrator and who knows what else is nowhere near as convenient as just creating a Skype account and adding people to your contact list, not to mention that text messaging in TeamSpeak is iffy at best. Messaging and speaking at the same time is handy.Malpercio said:Teamspeak has easily obtainable free server licenses. not sure about Ventrilo.

You are using a computer right now. Are you going to get rid of it because you got a cellphone? No. You already have a computer, and using a cellphone costs money. Skype can also do group chats and calls for free, something which no cellphone has ever done.Malpercio said:Doesn't running your computer cost money? the concept of "calling person X who also uses company Y is free" is pretty common, and unlimited text/email/data plans all exist.
It all either costs money and is less convenient or is free and less convenient. You're making uninformed assertions, because you haven't actually used Skype. I don't think it's too much to ask that you at least try to understand things that you don't get.Malpercio said:TL;DR: Everything Skype can do, something else has already done better.
