Dood, You Got a Prinny. In MY Cave Story?!

As seen here on Kotaku.

What would NIS do with our beloved game? A PSP/PS3 port sounds unlikely, as Nicalis could easily port the WiiWare version (or even the DSiWare version)

A prequel? A sequel? (despite Pixel saying otherwise) Voice acting? Crossover with Disgaea? Let the speculation commence!

...unless NIS is really Variant Interactive...? (and holy crap, they still exist)

NIS is short for Nipon Ichi Software, a Japanese game developer most famous for the tactical-RPG series Disgaea (where Prinnies come from) and JRPG series Ar tonelico. Check out the trailers linked to see what they're about.

As for a remake of Cave Story, that would worry me a bit. In my eyes, the stuff that NIS has done doesn't match up with what Pixel's work. Humor and otherwise.

 

Considering that Nippon Ichi Software's main specialty is the RPG genre, perhaps it's a reimagining of Cave Story within RPG gameplay?

I'm not sure how that would come out, but if done right it wouldn't be that much of a stretch, considering that the game already has plenty of dialogue, an EXP system [of sorts], and even shows how many hit points you've unleashed on a foe.

 

I guess that pic is just a sign that NIS is going to publish the 3DS CS remake.
NIS has nothing to do with the actual game remaking process, I think.
