when i first played dmm i liked it very much because they music was good and the sprites were very nice and fancy,
and even the dialogues had funny moments that made me go haaheeheehee very loud, i liked it very muc,
dmm is a gud mod i enjoy 8/10 true happy ending was veri hard to get made me go tru big pain

To think this was a troll at first. I'm barely starting my playthrough on this mod (I just defeated Shad) and clearly my thoughts will change later on in the mod depending on my progress, but um...

SO FAR THIS IS A VERY GOOD RESKIN??? Clearly you got potential for making a good, unique mod. Normally, people wouldn't recommend just making a mod that's "Cave Story but different", but this is really a breath of fresh air so far. Even for something that looks like it's meant to be a meme. I'll just keep playing and see how everything else is.

Yeah, I agree with Serri. This is an example of a reskin mod done right. It has enough unique elements -- the dialogue, the art, the MUSIC(!!) -- to make it worth playing through Cave Story again. I haven't gotten very far, only up to the Mimiga Village area, but I assume the core gameplay and levels are exactly the same as Cave Story's? If I had to complain, it'd be about that, just because the amount of great, individual assets make the vanilla layout a bit more jarring. I don't even particularly mind that I don't understand all of the references because it's cool to see all of the differences from the vanilla game. Great work, and I'd love to see you try your hand at an entirely original mod one of these days.

 

Let's not be too amazed about this, it is not a perfect hack by any means, and could have benefited from some gameplay changes. However, this does not mean I dislike the hack, I've actually quite enjoyed playing this, and liked the little references scattered about the hack.

Spoiler: Rant time

The song that replaces access sounds good, but becomes very grating very quick.

The facepics are rather charming, and get the job done, though the whole black and white aesthetic leaves a bit more to be desired.

The text design (in the logo and level up / down text) is very well done.

The character designs are well made, though they could get a tad more detail, even at this low resolution.

You seem to rely on a few sources way too much for references. Don't get me wrong, it's fine to make a joke here and there, but the more variety you place in something like this, the more fun it'll be for those who want to go on a hunt to find every single little joke.

Alot of songs use melodies from other songs, this is good, however there are many instances where it just clashes against the rest of the song and becomes difficult to listen to for extended periods of time. As someone who's got a few rips on timmyturnersgranddad, I can safely say that you should go to a server like the ttgd or siivagunner server to get some advice on making these sound perfect.

Onett remix is offkey.
Another medium remix is VERY offkey.
Grasstown music is fine, but the other melodies you introduced weren't adjusted to fit the key very well.

The song that replaces Balrog's theme is really fucking good.

The tileset in the mimiga village does not contrast very well against the background.

It's good to know that Tumblr heals me, it's sad to remember that they don't allow porn anymore.

The music after the cutscene in Egg Corridor doesn't return.

A little bit too on the nose with the nsfw jokes, not completely sure if that's allowed here but I'm fine with it.

Modders like this are desperately needed in a time when people like me, Blink, and Serri are slowly but surely distancing ourselves from this community (usually just over realizing that it's much better to make a game than a mod bc money)

There was alot of soul put into this, I can't wait to see what comes out of you in the future.

Very creative MOD for what concerns the
-Dialogue(it's not boring and that's saying something, a lot of CS MODS have boring dialogue),
-Music(very cool remixes, I especially like the earthbound music) and
-What The Eye Sees or WTES for the friends(Most of the retextures are good to amazing but I think you got lazy in some parts and just changed the colors, am I wrong?)
not for the -Gameplay(Calm down, I read the title of the thread, I'm just pointing out that even subtle changes to the game would have been nice).
I also appreciated the references(or at least the ones I was able to get).

Anyway seeing other people's responses is getting me curious enough to try, might look into it perhaps tomorrow.
