Has anyone ever noticed that classic games seem to have more memorable music than modern games.

For instance, Kirby 64 the Crystal Shards,
the true final boss Zero Two
has amazing music that I have found remixed everywhere and even found a lyrics video for.

Games these days don't seem to have as memorable music as the classics do. Is this just me or do other people see it too?

Or should I say 'hear' it too?

Tell me about it... I find myself always entranced by Cave Story's music and some other older songs... (Recently, Storm Eagle from Megaman X) Some or most times, remixes are okay, but they can sometimes completely ruin the song. I honestly, think if they do remake games with new/remixed soundtracks, have an option to keep the music the original. (CS Wii or CS+ for example)

Well, first and foremost, what you grew up with will add a nostalgia factor.
Next, maybe simplier or unique sounding tunes might be easier to remember?

The older systems had a lot more constraints with what you could do for music... Nowadays though, that's not an issue... And many games imitate established forms of music, meaning it'll be a lot harder to create a song that really stays with you, when your competing against the world.

... and there's repetition.

Both good but...
Which one is easier to remember?

Also, I think many big name games these days take an ambient approach to music. And over the years I've found western game music to usually be much more ambient while eastern game music will usually dominate your attention.

(And I have noticed with US TV shows, there always used to be full opening music songs before each show. Now they are much shorter, not voiced and you'll be lucky to have any music at all... Times are changing!)

I think this one is a good balanced, memorable new song.

Regardless of what it may sound like it said in my first post, I still love a lot of modern games music.

The whole ambiance thing adds mood to a lot of games these days and I love that. But my favorite music by far is the kind that really get your blood pumping.

It's the final battle and the world is at stake, you are the only one who can save it!

These are some of my favorite classic game songs and they are great.

Games like Zelda still produce good music in the modern day, like this one.

Though I haven't played too many modern games because I only have a Wii and couldn't afford the others.

They work now. Just shows how little I use these forums.
