I am. However it is highly probable that I will still run out of slots. I've taken to swapping out all of the interior rooms with 94+ slot rooms. :\

Is there any inkling of a solution (to fix the 94+ bg issue) in the remotely near future?

That was the solution.

Step 1: delete all maps that have broken background (maybe you can salvage the files if you're smart)
Step 2: use "Copy Map" a bunch of times on maps that have working backgrounds
Step 3: you now have more maps to use.
