Cave Story won't load sprites correctly

From what I understand, black is supposed to be transparent when loaded in.

Yeah, the game fails at removing black from anything or just outright doesn't show parts of, or entirely hiding NPCS and tiles. Any way I could fix this?

Cave Story has black squares around everything.
Download DDrawCompat and extract the contents to the same folder as Doukutsu.exe.

Did updating the driver do anything, or was it just the dll that fixed it?
