• Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

Do you like Cave Story? Do you like everybody in earshot knowing you are a huge nerd? Do you like changing OS settings manually?

If the answer to these questions is "Yes!!!11!", then I have something for you!
Instead of doing my homework today I put together a collection of replacement sounds for Windows, conveniently bundled with instructions on how to use them.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/42853625/Permanent/CS_Windows_Sound_Scheme.zip

This was just finished minutes ago so I haven't really tested whether these particular sounds will get annoying fast, so if anyone has alternative sound suggestions then feel free to mention. I did include two options for "Start Navigation" because that one you'll hear quite often using Windows Explorer and maybe CS' Menu Move sound is not subtle enough.

What would the world be like without Noxid? A lot less fun.

Mine no work. :/

This is most likely due to my audio files defaulting to .WAV, isn't it? What should the proper file type be?

Windows is going to make me change each sound individually.
And won't change the folder where it starts browsing.

The god damn things I do for Cave Story, Noxid.

Now that I have them installed, I am wondering how simple it would be to make Windows Cave Storyeqsue in appearance.

They *should* be WAV files. All the default ones in C:\Windows\Media that I have are, and to the best of my knowledge the files I provided are proper WAV format files. Unless you have a different version of windows?

There are some things you can use to change the background of your login screen, and there are also various custom cursors you can download. Outside of that I'm not aware of any applicable customization features like changing the window frame appearance or the taskbar.

I use Windows 7 Home Premium, by the way.

So Noxid.

I logged on to the admin account and set everything up there, and the sound still will not work. Now I really can't tell where the problem is stemming from.

We shall see! ...Still, setting it up wasn't as tedious as I thought it'd be, even at 9am after 3 hours of sleep.

Immediately after setting it up I noticed that the "CS_Default_Beep.wav" doesn't appear to work. The duration is probably too short, or it could just be my computer being an ass. (It plays in WMP, and when I hit the "test" button I can hear it fine - but when you adjust the master volume in the "speakers" tab at the bottom right corner, then you should get the default beep and i'm not hearing anything.)

If i'm the only one experiencing that problem then 'lemme know.

It all works fine for me. The bleepy navigation sound is alright for me, I like it more than the footstep.

Actually it looks like it has some limited functionality for me. If I click the desktop and then faceroll the keyboard then i'll hear the sound, but not when I adjust the volume.. Kinda strange.

Idunno man, I'm not sure what is causing people to have issues

I just installed the sound set on my laptop and it seems to work fine on this too.
I even tested moving the sound slider thingy :0

Guess my computer's just being an ass then.. Ah well, no worries. I kinda prefer the "Arf!" sound as the default beep anyways - it's definitely my favourite. xD

It works perfect for me. :/ somehow, i felt satisfied when my pc crashed while slamming keys on my extreme hell run, and played the death sound effect.

*Ka-pewwwwwwww!*
