With the recent release of Starbound featuring musical instruments than play songs in .abc format, I was hoping there might be a converter (or series of converters) from the cave story music files into .abc files.

Any ideas?

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of everyone, especially the guy who made the orgmid command line program and the other guy who made Starbound Composer.
I give you the entire soundtrack in ABC notation!

(This is useful for arranging these pieces, for ABC editors and players, or for games like Starbound and Lord of the Rings Online which use ABC songs for playing music.)

Really this only took so long after the initial post because I didn't know about the music tools beforehand.. I finished this in a few hours.

Nope. A tool like that is nonexistent at this current time.

.abc sounds like a format that Chucklefish created for Starbound.
Starbound has been out for 5 days.
Calm your shit.

EDIT: apparently .abc has been around for a while. Even so, very few .org converters exist, and they can all be downloaded from cavestory.org. Also your shit probably still needs to be calmer.

I feel like my shit is pretty calm. You say the .abc files can be downloaded from cavestory.org? Or am I mistaken?

You are mistaken. What Capt. Fab said was downloadable from Cave Story .org were the very few ORG converters that exist. And the ORG converters that exist do not support converting to or from .abc to my awareness.

Also, some (most?) people here, myself included, did not know of the .abc format before seeing this thread, so it is highly unlikely that anyone here is aware of any remixes of the Cave Story soundtrack in .abc format.

I seem to have found a program that can convert the /mp3 files from the main website into .midi files, and one that can further convert .midi into .abc

This can only result in success.

If there is a program where you can make music in .abc format, maybe you can recreate the notes on it seen from Orgmaker or you can recreate it by ear.

And they said it couldn't be done!

There you have it. Every song from Cave Story in ABC, including White and Wind Fortress, and every single percussion track to go with them. Plus a few "solo" parts which omit the rests in the start (which would normally have a percussion solo intro).

Much appreciated.
If anyone finds something wrong with any of the tracks let me know so I can get someone else to fix it.
