So yeah, I'm planning to translate Cave Story into French for the enjoyment of my motherland(whoopee)

However, I like to print the script and translate it at hand.
But I can't find a dump of the English script anywhere.

So, if someone had a dump of the script, it would be very kind of you to put it here, it would help me finish the translation quicker and spare me some tedious dumping work, heh. :B

I'll be sure to make you all know when the translation is released through. :D

The walkthroughs here might help a little, but they probably aren't a complete dump...

You might have to translate directly in the editor, and play the game several times to correct the mistakes.
As i am doing too.

I was taking in consideration translating it in italian, but I don't know how to do it... Is it as simple as opening a file .txt or there's more I should know about?

Basically it's just editing all the scriptes with one of the editors and sometimes replacing words in .pmb files with Paint.

Edit : By the way I work on a French translation of Ikachan.

Is there a guide or something like that? I'm new at this kind of stuff... Also, is there the risk that italian words are longer than english ones and so they don't fit in the box?

Don't worry about that Knefas, you can add in a few extra <NODs in the script if there are too many lines inbetween them.

How does that work? I need to open a file in the "Cave Story" directory and manually translates everything?

Assuming a <NOD is used to add a page in the box, how do I use it? How do I know if I got past the box limit? There's a character limit or something like that?

How do I share the "finished work" with the others?

I hope someone answers at least one of these questions :D

I used to think it's really hard like adding pages to the boxes but it isn't. The game does a lot of things for you. The only thing a <NOD does is stop the text from advancing so that you have to click X or Z to keep it going. Sorry I'm not very good at explaining, you should ask someone like GIR or Noxid.

Well, I have NO IDEA of where should I start so it's not about knowing what <NOD is for anyway :D

Is there a guide or a program which lets me do this?

I don't get it, I have to release the translation like a mod?
Pretty much.

Either way you'll be editing the games files, which is pretty much "modding" them. The script editors are the easiest way to translate it.

Alright, I've just beaten Ballos so I have some time to check out these tutorials. Thanks!

Alright if I got that right:
I open all .tsc files I find, I translate them, I add <NOD if it's more than 34 characters (27 with someone's portrait) then save, packet and share (After testing). I'll start right now even if I'm pretty sure something will go wrong...

EDIT: Also, what is the font used in .pbm files? I wanted to translate at least Yes/No and the Main Menu screen since the others don't have enough space to change them (Like Air)

EDIT 2: Looks like I got stuck here:
Code:
#0340
<KEY<DNP0340<WAI0010<SOU0022<WAI0010
<MSGYou hear something give.<NOD<CLO<WAI0050<ANP0253:0010:0001
<WAI0048<DNP0253
<ANP0301:0003:0002<WAI0128
<ANP0301:0001:0002
<FL-0822<FL+0823<FL+0826<END

That could be translated in many different ways... Is there a way to know when/where the event takes place or emulate it somehow? I'd like to check more events like that without having to play the game again and again (not that I don't like it, but still...)

No you can add a <NOD any time you want, usually at the end of a sentence. The whole 34 characters things only applies to lines, so when there are 34 characters just add a new line by pressing enter. However I'd recommend you to do that at like 32 letters. And the oui/non selection, I have no idea what font that is. Since it's in one of the pbm files just draw it in whatever font you want.

Thanks, I also added a little "edit" if you can help me with that
