How about a switch for when you level it up with the energy triangles? Activates a soul overdrive sorta thing for when you get to level 3. I'll draw it out sometime.

 

Well... that doesn't make a whole lot of sense either, since it wouldn't have been infused with King's soul for the level 3 attack until after he died. Unless King kept his soul inside the blade when he was alive, but that'd be one helluva stretch. Even then, a blade specifically constructed with the intent of harvesting a soul for extra firepower would be...

Actually, I was going to say distressing if under the assumption that it was made by the mimigas, but if you give it more ancient roots... I mean, Misery constructed the Demon Crown to harvest Ballos' energy, it might not be too much of a stretch to say someone developed something similar for the fallen. 'Course, that would beg the question, did King know about this function, or did he just think of it as any old blade? If he knew, it'd make the whole "Will you... avenge me?" line at the warehouse that much more powerful.

All this over a strange button eh? Haha, welcome to the club! I'd always assumed that the blade was a well worn piece handed down from Mimiga leader to Mimiga leader, and the blade has the spirit of King simply because his unfinished business.

 

I hadn't thought much on the origin of the blade. But now that it's been posed, I'm gonna be up all night mulling it over.

....aaaand will probably do the same with the rest of the weapons too. Did the gunsmith make them all, or at least some of them other than the polar star? Are weapons like the fireball and rocket launcher leftovers from the robot wars? Santa is canonically described as a "scardey cat" and is pretty eager to give you his fireball, which is pretty perplexing given how dangerous it is in Grasstown. Where did he find it? Why would the Little's house a weapon (i.e. the Nemesis) that's not only extremely dangerous, but far too large for them to possibly use? WHAT SICK BASTARD MAKES A GUN THAT SHOOTS DUCKS? Are they even living ducks (and if so how are they born so fast), or just bullets shaped like ducks?

...that's okay, I didn't plan on sleeping tonight anyway.
