Cave Story Co-Op

One person plays as Curly Brace, the other as Quote.

It's the same game, maybe some added dialogue here and there, but it's co-op!

Is it possible? If so, would it be difficult?

Depends on your definition of the word "possible". There is no reason why such a game couldn't be made. I don't think you could make a Co-op CS Mod, except possibly via assembly, but otherwise there's nothing short of your own inability that would prevent you from doing such a game.

Definitely

And yeah, I guess it would be possible. But would it really be possible with assembly? I doubt that, it's a kind of a primitive language.

You obviously fail to truly understand what assembly is. Languages like C++, java and python must be compiled (or converted, I'm mostly familiar with C++) to machine code BEFORE they can be run. Assembly is well, a symbolic interpretation of machine code, so that it makes more sense to programmers (editing just binary to code something would get tedious, wouldn't it?). If I'm not mistaken, Assembly is basically editing the binary in an executable, which is telling the processor what to do. Assembly language is based directly on the processor, and it ultimately is what all programs are coded in (Machine code). There are a number of low-level languages that fit under the title "Assembly" (based on the processor and operating system), but Assembly is basically machine code.

Besides,the first games ever were made with no coding language, just machine code. They were coded out by hand too. And if you're looking to re-use the cave story engine without getting your hands on the source code, then your best bet is assembly.

Everything is possible with assembly. If it isn't possible with assembly then it isn't possible with anything, period.

I think it would be better to make up an original story for the co-op, rather than forcing the game mode into CS. Cave Story Missions, follows two soldiers' quest to... finish their mission or something. Maybe a sequel to CS? Yeah, I dunno.

Misson mode

Mission 1
work together to reach the balcony in under 10 minuets!

Misson 2
Go into hell And find the hidden dog!

ect..

like a misson moe

would be pretty damn cool

That would be quite hard...

Nearly beating the game in 10 minutes? I doubt that is even possible.

It might be possible if it were just raw gameplay without any dialogue/cutscenes. Even then, though, I'd probably up it to at least 20 mins, probably more like 30.

Personally, I think this would be a good idea if someone were to make a game about Quote and Curly's original mission. Remember she says that they were sent to destroy the demon crown, but someone got it. they then went to battle him, and wounded him, but were out of their league, so they were blasted apart and so starts our Cave story. Someone should make a mod like that, and have there be a multiplayer option.

Ooh, that sounds like a neato idea! And yeah it would work quite nicely for a co-op type of thingy.

And teh sig is now fixed :)
