What this basicly is is the CS graphics and music being made if it was running on a 4-bit console. But there will be no space limitations like if it were acually on a 4-bit console.

does a 4-bit machine even exist?

I can't imagine a computer with a maximum practical number value of 16 being very useful.

This should be about 8 bit, not 4 bits.

4 bits would be silly.

You can thank Pixels really retro style and feel to the game that make sit seem a bit more primative in a pleasing way :3

Cave Story is 32-bit, it's graphics look more along the lines of 16-bit, though it wouldn't surprise me if pixel used colours from the 24-bit colour palette that couldn't exist in the 16-bit colour palette, therefore making it 24-bit.

If you want to do 4-bit then you need to pick out 16 colours (including the pure black colour used for transparencies) and only use those specific 16 colours throughout the entire game.

Sounds like an interesting experiment though.
