• Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

It's worth it with the ammount of beta content you can access.

You must have a rather different definition of "beta content" than me, because I would hardly consider anything in CS3DS to be "beta", since it's essentially a remake of the original game and so anything new wouldn't have been a part of the old beta at all. I'm sure it has its own leftover crap that I don't really care about, but, I don't really care about it.

Fine then, "unused" it is. I don't believe that the Beast Fang falls under this category, though.

Plus, the scripts were copy-pasted and were not written from scratch, like the rest of the game is.

When people are talking about the Cave Story beta, they are normally refering to the stuff that was made way before the official release of cave story, like this stuff: http://www.cavestory.org/info_beta.php

So you think that because a game has glitches it should be bought even if you already have the same game on different platforms

I, for one, am a person who likes glitches, but there are other things that made me want to buy it. For example, me trying to get all ports/remakes (missing Wiiware only), and considering the graphics (besides the character models) are good, that's also a reason. The models are only bad because if you watched an interview with Tyrone, you'd see that the game was only going to have 2d NPCs, so the models were rushed when they had the idea to put 3d characters in.

More on-topic: that post I made simply stated that the glitches and hidden dialogue are a good and fun reason to own it. If you disagree, then you disagree.

And yet, even the 2D characters and animations are broken half the time.

That, they could've at least tried to fix. Quote's head gets cut off while he's walking.

Come to think of it, why did they start with sprites instead of the models if it was meant to be a 3d game?

That makes two of us. I hate it when harmless glitches are removed (like how Nintendo removed the swordless glitch from Ocarina of Time and the ones allowing players to equip the Fierce Deity Mask anywhere in Majora's Mask).
I was very happy with the 3D port of Cave Story. As stated, the graphics are mostly very good with the exception of the characters (which you can have in their old sprite form anyway) and it actually extends and adds new areas to the proper game (rather than making them separate time attacks like the Wind Fortress and Nemesis Rush).
That and it features good remixes instead of the crappy ones that were in the first release of CS+ (to which were later added the same good ones heard in the 3D version).
Given all of that, I deemed it the best version to purchase (after all, if I want to play the unaltered original, that's been free since the beginning).

Probably for retro-styling. Don't forget that most Virtual Boy games used sprites instead of polygons and it still had 3D.

If you get the beast fang in the prefab house, you can't go to sacred grounds. You just get stuck at the bottom of the hole, and when you try to jump out, sandaime talks to you about the farm again....

I don't think they removed that. I am able to pull it off every time I do it on Wii VC (in fact, I do it every time I play).

You actually can. You just save, then exit and re-enter your file and the script is back to Prefab, although I do not recommend doing it at the Prefab House.

They took it out of the European version.

Not ALL of them, I believe. From what it sounds like, you are attempting the Sakkon's hideout glitch or one of the others. Have you tried the Great Bay entrance glitch?

I... don't know which ones I've tried. It's been too long a time. I'll have to look into it.
Of course, by the sound of it (Great Bay), half the game will already be over by the time I can try that one out.

Do the 4th day glitch, maybe?
...Again, another one of the glitches I do.
