Another Music Challenge...

Everyone really enjoyed this so I guess here comes...

The CSTSF Character Theme Contest

That's right, it's another music contest!
Pick a main Cave Story character and make an ORIGINAL ORG theme for them!
The rules are simple, and anyone can join! The deadline is August 25th! Good luck!

Originally I wasn't going to put this up until after I release Cave Story: Transcripted (it's incorrectly named, I know, sue me). However, it's August. Not long before the end of Summer, and then most people are going to be busy, so here it is.

Rules:

• The submitted entry must be an ORG and it must be compatible with Cave Story (it must use Cave Story's drum set).
• The entry cannot be a remix and cannot be a transcription of another song.
• The character that the theme is based off of must have multiple lines of dialogue and must be named. You may use a character that already has a theme, but your entry cannot be a remix of or show similarities to that theme.
• The entry must have been made after August 1st. The entry must be submitted by August 25th. All entries submitted after that date will not be accepted.

Deadlines:
Entries are due August 25th.
A poll will go up as soon as the video is finished, but will start no later than August 30th.
Five days later (that's August 30th) the poll will automatically close.
The final round of voting will then begin, ending on September 4th.
In the event of a tie, a single winner will be chosen by September 7th with another round of voting.

If I were to enter, could I use MALCO for my character?

 

i'd like to enter, and this time i'll ACTUALLY make an org. sorry about last time, i was a little busy and forgot about it but this time i'm determined.

i'll be making a theme for momorin, by the way.

The character that the theme is based off of must have multiple lines of dialogue, must be named, and should preferably have a face image. The exceptions to this rule are Kanpachi... and of course, Quote.

Doesn't Quote kind of already have his own theme song? I think some people consider the main Cave Story theme to be Quote's theme.

In any case, this is a cool idea for a contest. I won't be entering any songs, but I'll certainly listen to them and participate in voting this time around.

 

Personally I think that the face image rule is one step too far.

The exceptions aside that discounts Chie, Hajime, Zett, Megane, Santa, Tetsuzou, Sandaime, Chaco, Chaba, Dr. Gero, Nurse Hasumi, Mr. Little, and Ma Pignon.

And I question how Cthulhu would be allowable as an exception because it also breaks the rule that the subject must be named, because Cthulhu is the name of a group of people, not an individual person.

 

Is it just one character per participant? I wanted to do Malco as well.

But if not, I'll take my chance on doing Dr. Gero. Or actually, do I have to say my character up front now? I may change my mind in the future.

Yeah, but so does Jenka and Toroko, and they are eligible as well.

I think some people consider the main Cave Story theme to be Quote's theme.

Given that the internal name for the main Cave Story theme was CURLY as far back as beta CS (when Quote was called Curly) I would expect that it is Quote's theme in an official sense.

 

I don't have the skills to make an ORG from the ground up, but I do wonder if individual bosses are acceptable to have a Theme. Bosses like Omega, Monster X, and Balfrog (Those are all the Major Bosses that explode fantastically and/Or use Eyes of Flame). Least the Core and the Final Bosses had a unique theme, but I suppose it had to do with the scenario at the time.

 

So why are we making these again?

So you can use them in your mod and just cover it up as a contest?

 

Hmm, I guess it wouldn't hurt participating in this music challenge. I've never composed before, so this would be a start.

For which character, I'll go for Misery since no one else chose her yet.

 

I'd love to participate in this contest count me in. I'll choose the Doctor, I'll try to go for a less ambient theme to separate it from the original version.

That would work perfectly.

Also, I'm doing Mahin, assuming I can pull off making an org of good quality.

Are they? I don't think it was specified in the rules whether or not you're allowed to make a theme for a character that already has one, but I had assumed that it was discouraged at best.

No, jack ass. It's a contest like the CSTSF Boss Music Competition that I hosted a few weeks ago. If you actually read the post, the part about my mod was completely irrelevant to the rest of the post.

No, sorry. The character has to have speech. I am removing the facepic rule, though as andwhy pointed out, it's pointless.

Hmm.... sure, why not. Just make sure that you base the theme of your song off of his Cave Story personality, not his personality in other mods. I believe there was a mod somewhere (perhaps it was Jenka's Nightmare? I don't remember) that had a secret area where the mushrooms had made a tribute to Ma Pignon, who was now dead, which was supposed to make you feel sad for killing it. Make sure that you don't confuse the two portrayals.
