Umm, I'm pretty sure they still want credit. Regardless of whether its a link to the download or otherwise. That's like saying I'm gonna give you a link to this pirated song, but not the whole download. The creator still doesn't get what they deserve be it money or just acknowledgement of their creation.

This isn't about giving credit so much as it is about making things awkward and redundant. If someone really wants to do this then I guess that's their choice but it I'm not going to recognise it as being affiliated with the forums.
