• Hey everyone happy Christmas Eve we're aware of what's happened with the source code so to keep this simple absolutely don't post it on the site or use it to make mods with (it's not particularly preferable toward this end anyway) and tread lightly in general until we see how this settles, thanks to all and have a great holiday season -DT

Truly, it was a different time. We'll never get someone like Jacob Xanth again, and you should all lament that.
The golden days are gone, everyone knows that. There is no use in lamenting their passing, simply be glad that they happened.

At any rate, the first bunch of replies don't really count because it wasn't the actual anniversary day, I think. Besides, it's possible that people will be more reverent from now on!

You guys decided to celebrate Cave Story by jerking off to your join date? I'm quite surprised that we don't already have a thread for that, but whatever, might as well do it here. Maybe someone will make a proper anniversary thread later.

On topic: I remember when we used to talk about Cave Story all the time. Everybody posted content in the general discussion and theories forums, and we all thought that was fun. Most of the actual game-related discussion nowadays is kicked off by a newbie asking something, and us bitter tyrants shitting liquid sarcasm down their neck. Truly, it was a different time. We'll never get someone like Jacob Xanth again, and you should all lament that.
The reason people were jerking off to their join date is because this thread was about that. It said "The 10th aniversary of these forums!" instead of "Cave Story's 10th aniversary!" and everything. I guess after people told him that it wasn't he decided to change the entire topic of the thread without telling anyone or making a post about it just so he wouldn't look like a dumbass. You should probably not do that.

Cave Story had hooked me as soon as I heard the title music, and continued to amaze me the more I played. It also implemented the idea in my head that I wanted to make a game. This game is the best in my perspective, and I hope it survives in the years to come, if not forever...

Does anyone remember Nintendo Week? They used to play it on the Nintendo Channel on the Wii weekly, and I would always watch it. I remember seeing this game called "Cave Story" and one of the people on the show (Dark Gary if anyone remembers this) was playing on the DSi. It had a feature where weapons could actually level down, and I was an 11 year old who only played Pokemon, so this was a foreign concept. So I bought it, remembering an issue of Nintendo Power had the steps to get the best ending. Other than I played the game without any walk-throughs. Since them I've probably beaten the game around 10+ more times, and still I never get tired of playing it. Cave Story is my favorite game of all time! :D

10 years ago today... Hard to believe that December of 2014 2004 was 10 years ago. That means that Pixel started making Cave Story 15 years ago. What a impact one man's work can make. Cave Story has been such an inspiration to so many, myself included. If it weren't for this game, probably none of us would know each other. Thanks Pixel.

I wonder, when did Aeon Genesis release the english translation for Cave Story? I think we should also thank them for having us recognize Cave Story more before the crash of 2010 Nicalis licensed it.

cave story will always be in my opinion, the greatest game of all time. I learned of its existence when I was 15, and what do you know? Pixel started it 15 years ago. the number 15 has always been my favorite number, not because of this reason but it certainly adds to my liking of the number.

Slight edits for consistency.

(12:39:06 PM) Doub le Think: Oh so you're doing a morality system
(12:39:43 PM) noxid: I think this is the revolution that the modding community needs
(12:41:23 PM) noxid: finally a mod where your choices truly matter
(12:43:38 PM) Doub le Think: Yes
(12:43:45 PM) Doub le Think: Oh oh I know
(12:44:16 PM) Doub le Think: You could have some sort of system where you need to get certain items in order to unlock the true ending of the story
(12:44:29 PM) CptFabulous: that's fuckin gay
(12:44:39 PM) CptFabulous: christ i'd shoot anyone who made a mod like that
(12:45:05 PM) noxid: as long as it's completely arcane and completely nonobvious that such an ending even exists
(12:46:11 PM) Doub le Think: Most likely resulting in the player having to restart in order to get it
(12:46:27 PM) noxid: I think that would be for the best
(12:47:30 PM) Doub le Think: Happy 10th anniversary everybody
(12:48:46 PM) Doub le Think: [Non-imbedded Youtube video]

I still love this game :D

Aeon genesis released the translation a few month after Cave story. I think I read that somewhere.

Too bad my internet wasn't working properly on Cave Story's birthday. I really wanted to make a Balrog papercraft or something. But then I realized I probably would've messed up on it anyway.

Cave Story forced me to consult a walkthrough on the internet when I was young, and also eventually made me join the forum where I met so many people. It opened me up to the world. Thank you, Pixel.

10 years for Cave Story, wow... Being a silent observer, I never realized how many people are here today because of the creation of one man. (Pixel) All I have to say (that is, worth saying), is happy anniversary Cave Story.
