Which of the following do you think would be better for a set of notes available in a music module format (for both note pitches and filter cutoffs)?
Option A: Ranges from one octave above the lowest note on a piano to one octave below the highest, and has quarter tone pitches between each note (i.e. the smallest unit is not a half-step, but half of a half-step).
Option B: Ranges from the lowest note on a piano to 127 half-steps above this note (which happens to be three octaves and a major third above the highest note on a piano, and about an octave above the Nyquist frequency (22050 Hz)). Smallest unit is a half-step.
A has the advantage of allowing quarter tones, but has a small range which might be annoying.
The fact that B goes above the Nyquist frequency could be either an advantage or a disadvantage. It's looks kinda unprofessional to allow notes that aren't even playable, but having filter cutoffs above the Nyquist frequency might allow for some cool/bizarre effects.
Whaddya think?
