pignon sentience?

are all of the pignon's sentient? or just ma pignon, or do they come from some village that isnt shown in the game?, is ma pignon just some sort of special pignon with greater intelligence?

I mean, ma pignon might just be more bigger brain than the other pignons because it's self-aware of its properties and can talk. The other pignons just wander around aimlessly, not even intentionally damaging the player.

 

Ma Pignon does pontificate on how valuable it is, and by extension, how unique it is. I think it's safe to conclude it's a special pignon with greater intelligence. Comparatively, none of the other pignons show any signs of sentience.
The idea of one individual in a species randomly having much greater sentience is not new, as can be seen in, e.g., The Hork-Bajir Chronicles from the Animorphs series...
