So this is a thing. That said, the thing is a video game bookclub! I'll be running the event, and here's how it works. Every Saturday, I'll be deciding on a game to play for the week, by at the next Saturday, we start detailed discussion on it, and I pick a new game. I'll try to pick games that anyone can pick up such as emulated games or flash games, etc... This will go into quite a variety of games, so to show this the first game will be listed below. This requires a Game Boy Advance Emulator, so I'll link that as well. Let me know what you think of this charade.

Game: http://coolrom.com/r...ng_Dutchman.php

Emulator: http://vba.ngemu.com/

I picked an interesting game ths time as many of us probably wouldn't play it otherwise. Hope some people get into this and we'll get into some detailed discussion next week.

So it's not really a book club, but more of a videogame social.

Certainly Spongebob games are not exactly what comes to mind in the CSTSF / Miragamer tradition.

Spongebob was to get people to instantly realize the range of games coming, and because any game is worth talking about. There are two times wejudge a game, when we see it, and whn we play it, only one of those times is accuate.

Just thread based, there's way too many people here to do a huge voice chat.

Not all of them, the idea is that most can play them, you may have to miss out on some though.

aren't most emulator games illegal, unless you have the actual game?

Ah yes, a Spongebob game. I played the PS2 version of this when I was growing up, but I never knew a GBA version existed. I'll have to contribute eventually.

Well yeah, I believe it's illegal if you don't actually own the game.

Probably! You can't even buy the game anymore so it's totally okay.

Yeah, one could argue that an old game (especially one like this) would be abandonware, and therefore could get away with using a ROM for said game unless specifically told otherwise by the producers. For example, one wouldn't generally consider a game such as, say, Super Metroid, to be abondonware. Other games that come to mind, are SMB, TLoZ, pretty much any game in major franchises, etc.

I consider ROMs legal when you own the original game (cartridge, disk, or digital AS LONG AS YOU PAID FOR IT OR RECIEVED IT AS A GIFT).

Of course, it's perfectly legal to have a ROM of a game you already own. It's more about how legal it is when you don't own it, and if your morals influence your decision to download it even if you don't own it legally.

Don't worry. Everyone here has all the limited gold edition Spongebob games. Especially the Flying Dutchman ones.

Saturday!

Well, that was a game alright. I'll be a bit easier on you this time. This ime we have the unfinished game Mod Society!
http://cysdl.wordpress.com/mod-society/
The games main mechanic is interesting enough to merit replays.

On to the game of last week. I'm sure people have plenty of negatives about the game, so here's something positive. The bubble mechanic is somewhat interesting. I enjoyed the main button serving multipe functions and te varietyit added, along with gaining new abilities in each area, it made the game a bit more diverse.

That seemed to be an okay game. It reminds me alot of Ratchet & Clank, given the upgrade and gameplay style.
It has weapon balance issues and jumping feels a little stiff. But those can be ironed out by the time the game is finished.
